I was  on google maps  looking at  phoenix  and couldn't get  over  the size and  urban  sprawl.
And  the layout  of the  north/south,east  west  grid  construction.

Seems  massive. Covering 516  sq/mile.
Which is  about  1/60th  the size of  the whole of Ireland.

Does seem to be  a lot of greenry  and tree's in amongst  the  thousands of homes  which  I guess would  otherwise  be  desert.

that area had one of the biggest housing bubbles in the country--lots of speculation and development in the vast desert.  it's still drawing lots of retirees who prefer the dry heat to the humidity of florida.  and canadians are buying lots of property there too--snowbirds who spend winters there.  arizona in general is a great place to visit--lots of diversity.  sedona is as red as i imagine ireland is green.

All is great in Arizona until they run out of water!  We are experiencing our forth year of drought in California and the usual snow cap in the Sierra Nevada mountains is nonexistent.  The entire Western Portion of the United States has experienced drought conditions and the long term outlook is not good.  We need a water pipeline out of Texas instead of an oil pipeline into Texas.  If your into shooting Air Rifles, Arizona has some of the best dealers selling world class air rifles.  Check our Airguns of Arizona for an example of the offerings.

It's how to do it when things are flat. Cheaper to go out than up. But it's small compared to Los Angeles metro area that is almost 5,000 sq miles that has grown out and up.

Arizona is a great place to live for firearms enthusiasts in general.

I am saving for the FAS 6004
I have an old fwb 80 that needs repairs
And really miss shooting with an AP

I started with the Weihrauch HW 95 in .22cal and then got into the FX Royale 400 in .22cal.  They just started chopping down the high weeds behind my property and the ground squirrels will be moving about pretty soon looking at my garden so, I'll be doing some shooting real soon.

SoCals population is almost the entire population of Canada approx 32 mil. Considering the UK has roughly 60 mil people

My two sisters live in Arizona.  Several years ago, I went out there to visit around Thanksgiving.  My sister sent me to Smitty's to get something she needed.  I thought Smitty's was like any other grocery store until I got to the check out line.  The guy in front of me plopped a reloading press down on the conveyor belt.  [eek]

You frequently see people open carry out there too.

Sounds great to me  [thumbs up]

Isn't there a water shortage  in California, Arizona  etc?

Would swimming pool's not waste a lot of water?

I would think so too.  I haven't asked them lately about the water situation.

The folks in SoCal say that once the pool has been filled, it uses no more water than a lawn of the same size.

Of course, lots of people are rethinking lawns, too.

That would be OK if the folks in Southern California would fill there pools with water from Southern California  [big grin]

[size=14pt] [eek]

Don't you guys have to have a water management plan such as water tanks included with your pool permit application?

I have wondered why they (California, etc) don't build desalinization plants.  Doesn't Saudi Arabia use them?

Yep that's why they can have golf courses  ;D
De-sal plants use a lot of electricity which puts authorities with tight budgets off using them, they had to use one over here to build the channel tunnel (England to France under sea train tunnel) and after the project they could not even give it away to the local water authority! Of course in California it would not be beyond the wit of man to build a solar array for such a plant if funding was made available.
Perversely, here in Kent we are currently growing acres of solar panel farms that may eclipse the masses of oil seed rape fields we currently have. [eek] ;D
