Hi guys,

I just purchased a Kapex 120 EB, and while i was already thinking about enhancements to my
festool collection I came up with something..

I wanna make a gorilla sleeve for the 36mm AS hose so it won't rub to the guiderails and such, but
it wil also contain the plug it cord for my Festool TS 55, OF 1010 and PS 400..

The sawing requires a 36 mm hose for better CT capacity, but the Kapex doesnt have a plug it powercord..
I don't wanna cut of the kapex powercord and do a pigtail conversion on it, so i came up with a box like idea.!!

A normal outlet on one side  (for kapex) and a male pigtail plug it on the other side...but in a box..

This way I don't have to unplug the kapex plug from the CT and put in the plug-it..  attached to the hose, i only have to
detache the hose from the kapex, unplug the plug-it from the box... and hook it up to anything i want.. TS 55, OF 1010.. or whatever.. [big grin]

HOW ABOUT IT??

i tryed to upload a picture but my comp skills aren't that good..

There's no reason not to, seems like a good idea.

Just one thing to check, and that's whether the Kapex needs an earth connection. the Plug-It won't provide that. I don't think it does, but I'd check it first.

I remember asking my rep why the Kapex & the HL850 planer does not have a plug it lead.  He said it was to do with the motor size or summit.  You just have to look at the thickness of the cables between the Kapex & a plug it lead.  You would also lose your waranty if you cut the lead off it.

I'll look into the summit story because you maybe right.. (maybe call Festool)  thanks

The Kapex is 1600W, which is the same power as the TS75, so I don't think that's it. The standard plug-it pigtail will handle the current of the Kapex.

I guess the engineers figured that the Kapex, being more of a stationary machine didn't need a plug-it. And the HL850 was probably designed before the plug-its were introduced (like the Deltex DX93).

He's not cutting the lead. He's making a converter box that the Kapex plugs in to, so no warranty issues there.

I think there are 4 reasons (or more) of machines not having a standard Plug-it connection.

1. It's an old design (f.i. EHL65, HL850, RAS115/180, BS75/105, Deltex D93)
2. It uses to much power consumption (f.i. OF2200, Kapex)
3. It needs an earth connection
4. It's a stationary machine (Precisio CS50/70, Kapex)

The OF1400 (1400 W) and the TS75 (1600 W) are plug-it machine that uses a lot of power.
I don't know if these are the maximum but it looks like it.

OK, I've just checked my Kapex. Here's the rating plate:

[attachthumb=1]

It confirms two things; firstly, it's rated at 1600W, which is the same as a TS75. If the plug-it can handle 1600W on a TS75, then it can handle 1600W on a Kapex, there's no difference. So the Kapex is OK for use with a plug-it on that score.

Secondly, the square-within-a-square logo in the bottom left corner indicates that the machine is 'double insulated', therefore does NOT require an earth connection.

Based on that, I see no reason why a plug-it could not theoretically be fitted to the Kapex, or used somewhere in the electrical supply chain (like in the box the OP is asking about).

WOW you're fast!! [eek]

don't the amps count as well??

thanks  [big grin]

So the missus says!  [eek]

The amps are directly related to the power. So the maximum amperage for both the Kapex and the TS75 will be the same, since they both have the same power.

I can confirm that what Jonny says is correct - the Kapex is not earthed - it's a simple two core cable (I put a new French plug on my UK sourced Kapex yesterday as it is now out of warranty. I have quite a lot of stuff that has had the moulded UK plug cut off to be replaced with a Frech plug. I am often tempted to try to get replacement leads as a moulded plug is much more robust, but then a regular replacement plug costs about 3 euros!

Don cut the power lead just remove it from the machine and replace it with a pigtail... much quicker and can be reversed if needed ;)
