Pincer Clamps?

Hi guys,

I've watched a few youtube videos relating to finish carpentry, and some videos show some clamps which I'm not familiar with;

Excuse the explanation..

They seem to be used more often on external mitre cuts, a kind of Pincer which is applied using another tool? This in turn then brings the two pieces of timber together for fixing/glueing time..

Is anyone able to point me in the right direction?

Again, apologies for poor explanation!

Many thanks,

~WW

Wow, I've had these since the early eighties...no wooden box or fancy plastic insert...I think I bought them from Woodcraft back then for less than $40.00  [eek]  Ulmia Miter Clamp Set

Ya they are fairly expensive. Much stiffer than the Collins clamps.

Not my cup of tea to use, because they leave a small indent that depending on the hardness of the wood requires filling, but that's just my opinion, I'm sure they have their uses in certain circumstance.

There is a work around for the holes.  Put a couple strips of tape on either side of the miter, tack strips of 1/4" plywood to the tape with hot melt, and attach the clamps to the plywood.  If you use the hobbyist type gun and glue you have no chance of burning the finish because they don't get very hot.  You get the benefit of the clamps with no holes to touch up.  When I preassemble prefin crown the glue on the miter has some time to set I glue a short dowel to the back of the miter with Pamtite hot melt.  The technique saves a lot of time on prefin.  On most paint grade or unfinished stain grade work the dimples don't really cause a problem.

Great idea.

Whats the hole pattern on the work surface? I have not seen one like that before, at least not the shape of those holes..

That's my work table.  20mm holes cut on 96mm centers with the LR32.  I cut a little keyhole with the Domino and a 10mm bit to make every hole function like one of the Kreg clamping plates.  All you have to do is swap the screws supplied with the Kreg bench clamp with a 5/16" carriage bolt.  Nice for building face frames or random clamping anywhere on the table.
