Evening folks

I have recently acquired the surfix systainer and have yet to use it. Oak job fell through.
However I have a immenent task where I shall be using Pine veneer mdf for floating shelves, battern and frame with 15mm on top, 6mm under side and a solid pine lipping. Have a curved desk to do in solid pine, same room but a little later on.
Will the surfix oil system work on this? More so the veneered stuff. I'd like to have it finished before I install. My normal MO would be to spray in Morrells WB 20% clear lacquer. Done a lot of spraying lately...zzzz Also itching to use my new kit.
Cheers

James

Pine veneer what now!?

I had no idea such a thing existed. None. Is it posh expensive?

Haha £45 a sheet... Avonplywood

Assuming that at that price you are discussing hoop pine, which is at a comparable price down here.

There is some conjecture whether oil finishes will negatively affect the glues with ply/MDF ply vaneers. Some manufacturers even mention this in their data sheets. Can't respond here re Surfix, but hopefully I have raised your awareness that it might be an issue!?

Ouch.

If you're putting on a solid lip, why not ply out of curiosity?

As I have some aversions to MDF, (yes it has its uses), but as Wuffles says "why not ply?"

Cheers guys. First coat on ok... 12 hours on still feels greasy? Even on the pine. Did top coat today, leaving it another 24 hrs. No raised grain or adverse affect.
So used to using veneered mdf oak etc didn't enter my radar to use plywood!
