The key question is whether it has "good depth" control, and if there is a cutter that would allow removing a 1-2mm film of hardened gelcoat from fiberglas. The zero clearance edge would be good for approaching the deck trim and other unmovable objects.
I have used a variety of other portable planers and have not been impressed with their control.
Any thoughts from users ?

I asked Porter Cable, and they said their 7403 would NOT be a good alternative.
