Planer sled for jointing

Hello all,

Do you guys have any idea on how to build a planer sled for jointing on the planner the Festool way?

I was thinking if it's a good idea to use an MDF sheet cut 13" wide (because my Ridgid planer is 13.5" wide) with holes in it, a lot like the MFT table top. Then using the Festool clamping elements to hold the piece in place, of course with the wedges under the wood pieces to plane out the defects.

Your brainstorming ideas will be much appreciated. Thanks!

I don't think I would want to risk running anything metal through my planer.
There are a number of videos on YT showing how to make and use a sled.
I have one but never needed to clamp the workpiece down to the sled. I use
small shims or wedges where needed to support a twisted board but no type
of clamp, wood or metal.

What size (length and width) are the pieces you expect to plane on this sled.

They would vary from 8" to 10" wide.

The best sled I've seen came from shop notes 137.    Here's a build of it:
