Planer Storage Question

I assume it does, but can anyone confirm that there are spots in the HL 850 systainer for the the optional cutter heads?

Unfortunately, no. There's room to get them in there, but not a dedicated spot for them.

Thanks Linbro. Seems odd that they wouldn't have a dedicated spot for them.

It's a pretty tight fit in the systainer - sits on an angle, so not a lot of leftover room.
Great planer, best I've ever used, and one of my favourite Festools.

There is actually a spot for one extra cutter head. It stands on end and layers on top of the edge guide spot.

If it were bumped up to a Midi - Sys there would be room for several.

Of course the bench unit won't fit either , but it will fit in a separate  Sys-III.

Seth, isn't that spot for the dust collection adapter?

I'm pretty sure the heads come in plastic tubes, so would be fine just floating in the box.

Also Seth - do you know if the bigger fence fits in the sys?

You might be right about that. I just saw the round spot and measured it. It is larger than the cutter head diameter by a bit so the plastic container might fit. I never thought about it for the dc because I just leave it on the planer.

Yes, the larger fence will fit. Disconnect the 'angle brace' so that it will fold almost flat. The it can go across the back on edge. Doing that will preclude any possibility of putting a cutter head in the round spot.

OK, thanks Seth.
The fence that comes with it is 'ok', but the bigger one is much nicer.

Yup. I wouldn't call it nice fit, but it fits.

Just to make sure, we are talking about the large fence that can also be used on the bench unit?

Thanks Seth, just to confirm, I would need a separate Sys 3 for the bench unit and bench unit fence?

Right, separate Sys-III for the bench unit and large fence, but the large fence by itself can go into the planer Systainer as described above.

The bench unit will fit nicely on it's side in a Sys - III and the large fence will tuck in sort of under it. Might be able to get a couple other smaller things in as well. The bench unit could also go in a Sys -IV in it's normal use position with a little room next to it for other things.

There is a Festool video that shows a Sys1 with the three heads in some sort of insert, plus a timber sample of what each cutter can do, but I'm guessing it's some sort of retail display, or something a sales rep would carry with them?

Yup that's what I did was buy a separate sustainer for the fence and bench unit.

I don't have the bench unit, and I store the larger fence in the classic systainer that came with the planer. The thing that annoys me a bit is that I can't leave the little block on the planer to attach the fence (the thing that mounts with the allen bolt.
Is this different with the insert in the T-loc systainer?
I was thinking to cut a hole in the insert where the block would go, but I haven't yet, because I'm a bit scared the insert would crack when used with a hole cut in the bottom.
