Planers and Jointers

Hey Zen,

I don't know where you are located, but my local Woodcraft store in Matthews, NC has the 12" Rikon combo new on the showroom floor for $1297.  Their number is 704-847-8300, ask for Dennis.

Thanks Jack! That's about 4 hours from me. I used to live in Waxaw, NC. I'm quite familiar with Matthews. This might just be the ticket. Thanks again!

Jeff,

If you make the trip to Matthews you might also want to check our Leneave Supply.  They have bought out some cabinet shops that have gone out of business and I know they have some used 8" jointers and possibly some planers.  They are in Charlotte and their phone number is 800-442-2302.

Also, I checked out your website and I'm impressed with your artwork and the fact that you are a movie star.  Ernest Goes to Camp was a funny movie.

Good Luck,

Jack

Thanks Jack,

Movie Star!?!  Not quite, more like starving poster artist. LOL.... It was my 15 minutes of infamy....more like two or three. It was a fun experience. Getting to meet Jim Varney was fun. He was a such a great guy. Most of the footage we shot wound up on the editing room floor, but i got my little cameo right at the beginning. All the stunt riding on horses never made it into the film and so it goes.

I was just contacted by a local fellow who is selling his father's tools, many are still in the boxes and never were used. Lots of top shelf stuff. His father was a furniture and cabinet maker who loved high-end equipment but passed away while building his new shop. He's not even sure what all is in the building, but it looks very promising with what he mentioned while walking around describing it. I'm going down in the morning to dig through it all and see what's available. I may just find what I'm looking for at a great price. It would be really nice to get it locally and help him out.

If I don't come across what I need I will definitely be contacting those people you suggested. Thanks so much for the info.

Jack....Big Thanks!

I called the Woodcraft and confirmed the purchase of the Rikon. Thanks again for the lead. I really appreciate it. It was exactly what I was looking for.

This past weekend I contacted the local fellow who was selling off his Father's tools. I'm going to pick up a Sawstop Contractors setup with the T-Glide Pro Fence System & 36" Extension Table and the cast iron wings. It also has the dado set, extra dado brake, multiple table saw jigs, titanium sawstop blades, extra brakes and a mobile base. All new still in the boxes. [big grin] at a great price. Very Happy!

He also has a couple of DELTA 28-276 band saws. One is practically brand new, the other is basically a parts machine with no stand. He is willing to cut me a deal to take them just to get them out of the way. They get mixed reviews on amazon. Does anybody have any thoughts on these small saws? I need a band saw, but after these last two purchases I'm going to have to save some cash before I jump . Maybe these small ones will suffice until I come up with the cash or stumble into another deal I can't walk away from. Thoughts?

Jeff,

I'm glad the Rikon jointer/planer will fit you needs.  I don't know anything about the machine but it seemed like a good price and the guys at this Woodcraft will take care of you.  Great score on the SawStop and accessories.  If I ever get rid of my Unisaw I wll probably get a SawStop.  The Delta bandsaw you mentioned is a 14", 3/4hp bandsaw with an open base.  I have an earlier version of this saw that was made in the USA that serves me well.  The 28-276 model is probably made in China but still might be a good saw.  You may need to change out the guides and get some good blades like Timberwolf's but it should do well for anything but resawing and it sounds like the price is right.

Have fun with your new toys.
