Hi!

Wanted to share my plans for building a MFT Sysport this summer/fall. We are moving, and I cant take my old, simple, temporary version with me. Now I'm planning version 2.0, with the same MFT-top from before.

To start off I'm gonna create the skeleton to hold the MFT-top, and when I have the time I will add the cabinet as shown in the pictures. Do you guys think 2"x3" for the framing, with this layout will be solid and sturdy? The cabinet will add some further rigidity later. Another function I will add is an integrated router table, with removable fences. Hence the hole above the vacuum.

The cabinet will hold the CT26 (modelled is another Festool vacuum I found on SketUp Warehouse, that has been scaled to proper size), a total of 12 Systainers (2xSYS 4, 4x SYS 3, 2x SYS 2 and 4x SYS 1) in two depths, on the right will be some drawers for hand tools++

Any feedback on how the layout looks? I'll update with pictures when its coming along, but this will probably take a while as I've got plenty of things on the agenda :)

It's cool and I love the Sys-bench builds.

But.
I have to share my love of Sys-Carts.  They are amazing.  I can roll them around the garage effortlessly.
I'm planning to just build a corral area under the bench to park the carts.  It eliminates making the pull-outs and I think the carts are more work friendly and flexible.

Just my couple pennies.

Great planning and sketchup.  I can't get my feeble brain around that program.

Thanks for the tip, I'll have that in mind! I see a couple of challenges with that solution though, and I'm not sure how often I would use the function.
1. Loss of rigidity/weight from the cabinet as it would be a separate construction
2. Unstable cabinets when I want them to be 70cm deep, could cause tilt when the top systainer-drawer is pulled out.
3. Lost space in the drawers, as all cabinets would have to be individual, it would add about 6cm in the cabinet-walls that comes out of the drawers.

I tried out SketchUp without any video-tutorials previously and it was a pain. Now I watched their intro-videos, and everything went a lot smoother when I understood referencing and a few shortcuts :)

I am using both rolling cabinets under my MFT's  A couple of other workbenches I have drawers and/or cabinets with security doors.  I like the rolling cabinets under the benches much better.

From your drawings, it appears yo do not need access t tools from either side or from the back.  Would plywood panels in both ends and in the back stiffen up the bench enough for you?

Fredrick,
I hope I'm not hijacking your thread, I'm just stupid crazy in love with these carts.  There is no doubt that the pull out sustainer slides look great and I had planned to go that direction.  I got the carts in the meantime.  I had no idea how versatile they are.  An unexpected added benefit is they provide a platform to park your domino, TS, whatever while you are pausing to perform another task.  The power cord and hose aren't onto of the project area.

Thanks for the Sketchup tip.
This concludes the SysCart commercial.

I could add some panels to the sides, that would probably help out a good deal. Thanks for the tip! I'll just check how it feels after I've build the base I guess.

Go right ahead Luke, this is a discussion forum :) I will have to check it out after I've made the table. Wouldnt be too hard to make a separate cart if I decide to go with integrated cabinets

@bobberner

That is a custom power distribution sys he made. There is a thread on it around here somewhere.

Cheers. Bryan.

Hey Luke,

What is that on top of the vacuum in you photo??

It's a "WayneTainer"
I made a simple one since I was so very, very tired of having the plug fall out of my CT-26.
