Hello,

Here is my dilema...

This was my first time to try to use my brand new Festool 1010 router.  Unfortunately, what was an excitment became a dilema quickly.

I installed the colet nut and collar insert without the router bit.  Tightened it down.  I got the colet nut off but the insert is stuck.  I don't know what to do..

Does anyone know how I can remove it without making more damage.

Please see attached pictures.

Thank you in advance for all your recommendations, ideas and help

MSW, you may be able to tap the collet with something to free it but that's a long shot. Try some spray lube and pry carefully. Good luck.

Brice, put a drill bit (smooth chuck end) that just fits into the collet, tap the side of the drill bit GENTLY with something not too heavy, you don't want to bend the drill bit or damage the router bearings, but several gentle taps from different directions will ease the collet out.

Thank you both for your reply, I did the following:

I put the collet back and tightened it too the max.

I removed the collet hoping that the insert will come out.  But it didn't.

So, I noticed the hole that stops the spindle when you install the collet and I saw part of the insert through the hole.

So, I inserted a small screwdriver through the hole to push the insert loose.

I tapped the edge of insert with a flat screwdriver and it went out.  I took a while but the time spent was worth it because I didn't want to damage the router.

Again, your replies was greatly appreciated.

Thank You

Hey Moataz - just to make you feel better, I did exactly the same thing when I bought my OF1010! And so did at least one other person who posted on this forum. You sure get a panicky feeling when something like that happens - especially when you haven't even plugged the tool in yet!

Glad you figured it out. I can't remember now how I got mine out, but the router works perfectly. And I'm more careful, now...
