That is just amazing [scared] it's more art than anything else I love watching Asian joinery it's well out of our reach  in Europe and the Americas

That's a whole lot of dedication that goes into that levell of work. Thanks for posting.

And that is why the Japanese have 1000 year old Pagodas made out of wood.

Yeah, every time I feel like I've become a good carpenter, I just flip through some Japanese joinery books or watch some of these videos and relearn my humility.

To think that they will use silk thread and ink like a chalkline and then use a handsaw to split the line is beyond my comprehension.  And skill level in this lifetime.

Thanks for posting that.

Makes me wonder why I bother using anything other than a chainsaw and sledgehammer for my version of "fine joinery"...

As rnt80 said, I quit.

I was horrified by their choice of footwear.  [scared]
Only this week my brother dropped a sheet of slatwall on his big toe, three days later he's still limping. He was a little upset when I suggested safety footwear would have avoided unnecessary pain. (That's the polite less insulting version of what I actually said  ;)

Pretty traditional Japanese footwear. It's worked for a thousand years...or more?

I love these guys.  Watching them drop a 60+ foot beam in from a crane into sliding dovetails and it just slides in with a few mallet taps.  I have spent quality time watching these guys frame houses and I am not ashamed to admit it.

Pisssh. They needed like 5 mechanisms to hole that joint together. We have screws, and spoons.

No

I'm just joking

I quit with rnt80 and rmw
