Illegal no! Just not supplied by Festool USA. And yes they do work here, I have them on all my tools that did not come with a plug-it cable, also on non festool tools. I have had them on for a few years no with no issues.
I have a family member coming over soon, I will see if they will bring some with them. They will be about $35 each if you want them.

When you wire one up remember in US ,white is ground (wide blade on plug) with plug-it, blue wire goes where white was.Your other plug-it wire is brown and that one will go where black wire was.
