Plug-It Connectors with black crud

Over time all my tools and plug it cords have developed this black crud on the sockets. it causes the power connection to be intermittent and is a huge pain in the ass. i'm not sure if it started on one tool and spread around through sharing of cables (festool plague?) or if it is a result of all the sockets deteriorating over time or something else all together, but note that one of the cables in the attached photos is only a couple months old and has a large amount of crud on it.

has anyone else experienced this? is there a solution other then replacing all the sockets and plugs on the tools and cables?

Think I would try cleaning one up with electronic cleaner to see what shape the contacts are in.

All of my cables are pretty old, especially the one on my extractor hose that gets used a lot and none has that much goo on them.

I suggest you stop using any tool and plug-it cord with this kind of damage.  This is caused by arcing and your cords and tools are burning up.  You really should get any tool showing signs of damage repaired and throw away all the damaged cords.

I would call Festool Customer Service.  You may get some consideration.  [dead horse]

Agree with Brice 100%.  [eek]

Do you use the RO150?  Do a search on the hard wire kit.

Cheers, Sam

thanks for the comments. what would have caused this to happen in the first place?

It can happen just from normal use, but that is not nearly as likely as the plug-it not being properly attached.  Make sure you get the full quarter turn to fully connect the plug-it cord.
