Plug-it cord types

Making sure I have this right ...

Until today, I had always used the same Plug-it cord for my Festools.  I hadn't noticed there are two different ones.

It appears there are two Plug-it cords, a 16ga and an 18ga.  The lighter 18ga has an extra lug on the plug to keep it from being plugged into a higher-wattage tool like a TS, while the lack of the lug still allows the 16ga to be used on a lighter tool like the Domino.

Right???  Or are there more than two cords?

Yes, for some reason Festool decided to introduce a second one for the US market (probably UL again!). The general advice is to throw away all the 18ga cords, and just use the 16ga ones for everything...

Throw away? I can see taking the larger ones with to the job site if space is an issue, but tossing out, they work fine.

OK, but if you don't throw them out, what else will happen? They'll just sit in a cupboard somewhere, never being used & taking up space.

I only ever use 3 plug-it cords: one is permanently attached to the hose on my CT Mini; one is similarly attached to my CT26; and I have one loose one that I use for my multimaster and my non-festool jigsaw (both are fitted with plug-it pigtails) or for when I don't need dust extraction.

I do still have some more - funnily enough they're in a cupboard somewhere, never being used & taking up space! I did think about eBaying them, but I doubt they'd sell.

Luckily here we only have one type so everything fits everything. If I had a plug-it that only fitted certain tools, I'd definitely get rid of them just in case I picked the wrong one up to take to site...
