Plug-it on other tools

I'd love to have plug-it on some of my other tools.  What is involved for those of us in the US and have others found it worth the cost and potential voiding of warranty?

There is a pigtail adapter, BUT it is Not Available  In North America NAINA.

I'm planning on doing an unauthorized pigtail on my mini just as soon as my neon green extension cord arrives  ;D

May prompt me to bastardize my non-Festool tools

I've been MEANING to do that to my Bosch powerplaner for a while now.
It's a great little planer, light and cheap, and my CT22 eats 95+% of its dust from the dustport.  I'd love to PlugIt with everything else (why do they make tools with cords only 6' long?!)

Look through the EKAT for a replacement tool receptacle with long leads.
Best of luck.

I've changed my Fein Multi Master to a plug it.  It also lives in a Systainer now  [big grin]

Did you also shoot it with some Rustoleum green spray paint?!  [tongue]

I have PlugIts on my benchtop oscillating spindle sander since I always connect it to the CT22 anyway.  All that was involved was disconnecting the existing tail (2 screws and a plastic bushing) and inserting the pigtail.  I minded the colors although that OSS should be double-insulated.  I wrote it down somewhere, but IIRC, the baby blue wire is our white wire equivalent so not a bad idea to keep the colors consistent.  Keep the old tail you removed for the day you want to sell the tool.  And if anybody asks, I didn't explain any of this. :)

It's a conspiracy between the tool companies and the companies that manufacture extension cords.

There is some hope, however: Ridgid makes a router with an 8' cord.

(Shh!  Don't tell the extension cord companies...)

Sorry but what is a Pigtail?

I have bought and installed Plug it Femail ends on to my old Rotex and Router.
Is this what you mean by a pig tail

Is there a NINA (Not In North America) FOG member who would be willing to work with me to acquire and ship some pigtails to those of us saddled with NAINA Festool Syndrome?

I may be willing to facilitate a bulk purchase if there is interest and a willing partner somewhere in the Euro zone.

There are different model pigtails and you have to make sure you choose the correct gauge.  Others on here who have them will be able to give info in more detail about that.

There are two models of pigtails and the only difference between them is the length of cable, 360mm vs 420mm. The gauge is the same.

I thought I remembered talk about there being more than one gauge pigtail and one of them came with a tab that had to be cut off for used with North American tool versions?

The tab is in the male end of the  plug it cable, (the normal cable, not the pigtail) And it shouldn`t be cut off, it`s there to prevent the lighter guage cable to be used with tools that require the thicker cable. (note that this isn't an issue for most European users, because the tools that can be used with a thinner cable come standard with the cable that can also give power to the higher wattage tools)

I have two plugit pigtails, I wanted to put one on my makita planer, and one on my fein supercut, but I  really hated it on my supercut so I ended up with one plugit on a concrete vibrator that needed a new cable, and the other one in a box awaiting donation. (it are the ones with the green-not-so-flexible cable)

The pigtail thingy is complicated.

There are 110V pigtails and 220V pigtails in the UK.

The 110V have a funky profile shape that requires chiseling off a nub.  After that, you can connect the heavier-gauge American PlugIt (e.g., one for the OF-1400), but the pigtail is rated for 10A, which would normally require the extra nub on our American PlugIt cords.

The 220V pigtails have the exact same profile as our heavier-gauge American PlugIt cords need (i.e., the one without the nub).  The catch again is that though you can plug the heavier gauge PlugIt into the pigtail, you still can't exceed 10A.  Basically only put these on tools that take 10A or less and you're golden.

I don't bother with the 110V versions anymore or you have to do the chisel trick.

The 491144 is the 360mm 220V/10A pigtail.  That or the 420mm (can't recall code) pigtail is what you want.  Simple replacement on the RAS-115 or RS-2e as both take considerably less than 10A.  Works well, too, for an orange benchtop OSS.  Don't be a bonehead and put it on a "3hp" router or toaster.  They aren't sold here because 'mericans can't be trusted with them  [tongue]

Cool. I have a to-remain-unidentified FOG accomplice who has offered to handle the overseas side of the process. Anyone interested please PM me so I can gauge quantity.

Thanks Paul.

I'll take two or three. One for the RS-2e that I was waiting for Festool to upgrade along with the oval to round dustport. Two more for the other tools they won't upgrade. Or maybe we should refuse to buy until they are upgraded???????????????????????????????/
