plumbing and leveling framed "boxing in" using the domino

i was doing some framed boxing in today 300 off the wall, a metre high and covered with ply (to take tiling)

the floor AND the wall were all over the place, normally this type of work is a pain, almost every piece of the frame has to be cut and fitted individualy (and you still have to tweek it) , i couldnt be arsed

so i made up a "square frame" using dominos (and left them all loose) fixed the floor and wall plate

then leveled and plumbed one end (firing 2 no, 16 guage brads through the framing into each domino) to "fix" the plumb and level

did the same at the other end, then then fired brads into all the remaining dominos

(each "joint" has a varying amount of visible domino, dependeding on the wall or floor plate position)

the ply face to the frame (scribed to the floor first) and the top (scribed to the wall) stiffens the whole unit into an immovable object

job jobbed    8)

then on the way home (2 and a half hours for a 16 mile journey  :P ) i got to thinking and realised where i got the idea

festool made a sun bed where open joints with visible dominos where a feature of the design

Where and when did you see this?

i think, and stress the word think

it was on a uk demonstration dvd for the domino

apart from mk my idea clearly hasnt rung any bells or sparked anybodys imagination

here is a photo from another piece of work to show how the double pinning each domino can be used to level and plumb a framed box out

all youve got to imagine is that the floor slopes and instead of the joints being tight like this photo you leave the joints slightly open and just double pin them when youve leveled them

I don't have a domi to try it out with mate but I did think it was a clever idea when I first read it.

Same here - I reckon it's a neat idea, and one which I'll try to remember.

in reply to both mr andersons

this idea isnt "a clever idea"

its just an idea that you MIGHT remember one day (i hope........... without thinking)

all i hope is that one day you can use it (or adapt/apply the basic idea) to your benefit

and make a bit of money

good luck
