Possibly Silly Question(s) - Coloured Lacquer?

Jonny I spray morrells waterborne products through a fuji q4 hvlp system.

I mainly use there 8005/501 primer and then there range of 8 series white and black lacquers. I also sometimes use there fastmatch colour matching service to get farrow and ball colours mixed in various sheens. Again all waterborne.

I used to have to thin both there primer and white lacquer with water when I used to use a hired hvlp, which has a stage 2 turbine and a 1.3mm needle. It was a pretty much trail and error until it was the right viscosity.

Give there pigmented lacquer a go. I really rate morrells and find there customer service first class.

I discovered lacquer 2 days ago. I had asked for a sprayer to spray latex on, and posters suggested I used a tinted lacquer instead. The lacquer is supposed to spray on much easier and give a superior finish, being harder and less prone to chipping, and drying very quickly.

Do you have a Sherwin Williams near you? They have a product called KemAqua that is a pigmented laquer that can be tinted to match their colors. Its water based as well.

OP lives in UK, so probably not!

Is Sherman Williams really water borne? I had planned on getting my lacquer through targetcoatings, but have to call them to get it tinted. Sherman Williams would be much more convenient.

Yes I believe it is. Kem Aqua isn't stocked at all locations but I think they can get it if it's jot stocked.

Kem Aqua is water bourne. Not all Sherwin Williams stores can get it or sell it. The minimum tier store that can sell it is a contractors store.

Kem Aqua- clear- the original it is not self priming or UV stable. 4 mil applied before it sags. Sheen of DRE, MRE, BRE, Gloss. 17-85+ black glass reflection (BGR).

Kem -Aqua sanding sealer clear. 4 mill apply before it sags. Flat sheen only. Less than 17 BGR.

Kem Aqua Plus clear- it is self sealing and UV stable. 4 mil applied before it sags. DRE, MRE, BRE, Gloss. 17-85+ BGR

Kem Aqua White- self sealing and tintable. Not all contractor stores have the tint for it. All commercial store can tint it. Low, Mid, Gloss. 20-70+ BGR.

Kem Aqua surfacer clear- heavy bodied SW claims 6 mil to sag, I've shot it to 9 mils without sagging. Flat only. This is a special order product.

Today I shot KA+ MRE through a a Fugi T-70 gravity equipped with a PPS cup. 0.8mm air cap nozzle set. Very impressed with the lay down. Much better than with the 1.0 mm that I normally would use.

Great info there Tom! My store started stocking the white KemAqua. Good pricing too! I will have to ask about the tint for it.
