So, beginning on October 1st, we launched the new CT 26 and 36 and also began our fall promotion which included the MFK and OF 2200.  The first forum member from the U.S. or Canada, excluding Quebec, to post a review of each of these tools along with at least one photo of the tool being used will receive a free one-year magazine subscription to their choice of Fine Homebuilding or Fine Woodworking.

A total of four subscriptions will be awarded as prizes, one for each reviewer who is the first to post a review for each of the four tools listed.

Good luck,
Shane

Must be a resident of the United States or Canada, excluding Quebec, and over the age of 18. Employees and family of employees of Tooltechnic Systems, Festool dealers and employees and other Festool affiliates are not eligible to enter. All entries become property of Festool USA and may be used for marketing or other purposes. Contest expires November 30th, 2010.

There, 3 out of 4 subscriptions are mine. [tongue] Just kidding.... Nice contest Shane.

BTW, these aren't real reviews so they're not entries in the contest.

I knew I should have included "Brice Burrell" to the list of groups not eligible...  [blink]

No, it's in the fine print if you real close. Here's the text enlarged:

"No jerks allowed to enter, yes that means you Brice Burrell."  [big grin]

In all seriousness I'm looking forward to these reviews, particularly the new CT reviews.

Having just attended the Festool router class, and having used both the MFK700 and the OF2200, and even though the very same that I ordered Friday haven't arrived yet (Tuesday's coming, and fast...), I'll have to say that the experience of using both has opened my eyes to ways of doing things that were either very difficult or nor reasonably possible before.  Edge banding, more specifically, cleaning down solid edge banding after gluing has set up, has become a piece of cake with the MFK and either the 1.5 degree or 0 degree horizontal bases.  I'm really looking forward to building some cherry bookcases over the winter.  As for the OF2000, I think it will be just the tool for some serious door raised panel-making and using a thumbnail bit on some solid cherry edging on my future computer tables.

OK, Shane, there's two subscriptions.  Brice can have the other two.

[wink]

Shane, we need a standing ovation smiley for Brice!

Why is Festool excluding Quebec?

Frank, this was discussed in another thread. I don't know all of the details, but it's my understanding that Quebec has very strict requirements for sweepstakes and the like. As a result, we are opting to exclude Quebec due to the additional requirements.

Why is Festool excluding Quebec?

Doing a quick search on the internet, I did find this:

Quebec with almost one third of the population of Canada is often not included in any contests. Indeed, it has to do with charity and contest laws in the province of Quebec. When planning national contests, companies are confronted with a unique set of rules and regulations in order to include Quebec. The Regie des Loteries et Courses du Quebec requires long preparation times and fees for approval. As a result a great number of national contests promoted by national brands exclude the province of Quebec. To shed some light on the issue, we have contacted the government agency responsible for slot machines, horse races, lotteries, sweepstakes and contests in Quebec. The following is a list of required steps in order to accomplish the impossible, get a sweepstakes approved in this unique Canadian province. The rules of a publicity contest must be accessible to the public and must include as a minimum:

·The conditions for entering the contest
·The places where the public must deposit or send the contest entry forms
·The deadline for entering the contest
·A description of the method of awarding the prizes
·The place, date and time the prizewinner will be named
·The media used to inform the winners of the prizes won
·The place, date and deadline for claiming prizes, or where applicable, whether the prizes will be delivered to the winner
·The information about how a jury will select the winners
·The nature of the skill-testing requirement that a winner has to satisfy in order to claim his prize
·A person for whom a publicity contest is carried on shall furnish security to the board where:
1)He has a head office or place of business in Quebec declared in accordance with the laws of Quebec
2)He has not been convicted of an offence against the Act or these Rules in that year precede the date of the launching of the publicity contest
3)That the value of a prize offered to Quebec residents is more than $ 100

It is recommended for companies wishing to offer contests and sweepstakes in Quebec to contact the Regie des Loteries et Courses du Quebec by visiting their website at www.racj.gouv.qc.ca

Meanwhile, until Quebec loosens its rules and regulations, a good site to enter contests valid and legal in Quebec is Quebec Concours located at: www.quebecconcours.com
There, you will find an extensive list of games, contests, sweepstakes, lotteries and surveys that pay participants. The site is a free resource for all Quebecois residents.

Still no winners declared. Certainly someone has a CT 26, CT 36, MFK 700 or OF 2200 by now...

Shane,

You have my address - FEDex me one - your choice -  and I will post a review!

Hmm...  Was going to get a router later in the month.  I definitley will be trying for the contest if no one else has stepped up by then.  I'm not ordering now because I'm traveling for work. :/

Because I have no photos of any of my Festool routers in use, I am not sure if I am eligible to post reviews.

I purchased my OF 2200 quite a while ago. It is a marvelous tool. Because of its weight even with fairly small cutters I often prefer it to my OF1400.

Like many FOG members, before I purchased my first Festool in 2006 I had been accumulating 1/4" and 1/2" shank router cutters since 1948. My experience is that all of my 1/2" shank cutters work best on the OF 2200. The advice from my dealer, Eagle Tools of Los Angeles, was to use a 36mm AS hose to extract dust and chips from the OF2200. I have always done this and am thrilled with the effective collection. I certainly do not consider the larger hose to be a handling problem.

Because I do so much solid hardwood edge banding, I became very interested in the MFK 700 when word about it filtered to the USA from Europe. It is possible I made a pest of myself with my dealer, Eagle Tool of Los Angeles. I might also have tried the patience of the nice folks at Festool USA in my advocacy for distribution in the USA. I pre-ordered the MKF 700 EQ Set what seemed like a very long time before mine was available. Minutes after getting the call it had arrived and I could pick it up, I was driving to Eagle Tool.

I am so happy I bought the complete set right away, because that set includes both bases. To me each is ideal for certain purposes. Changing bases is not difficult and is fairly quick. Still, once the back-orders were filled, I purchased a MFK 700 EQ Basic set plus an empty SYS 2. With this second MFK 700 I can keep each attached to different bases. To me the advantage is I can trim both ways as needed, without a need to devote time changing the base on a single router.

Over the years I had trimmed edging and laminate with many brands and styles of router. Once I had a MFK 700 I am sure this is the ideal for trimming. To be honest, since I bought these I have not been asked to do many laminate jobs. The few I did with the MFK 700 went especially well. Solid edging is a specialty of my shop.

Yes, we do have a top-quality automatic bander that can apply all the flexible products as well as solid up to 6mm. That machines does an amazing job, producing work that pleases our clients.

However, we are best known for 13mm to over 25mm tongue and groove hardwood banding which we do by hand. We mill our own banding using a molder. A mass of edging clamps and hot glue is involved. The pair of MFK 700s makes the fit and finish beautiful in surprisingly little time. Just the saving on abrasives justified the price of the MFK 700s, although I prefer to not think in such "bean counter" terms.

My suggestion to anyone needing to trim on a regular basis is to buy the MFK 700 EQ Set. Until you use them it is hard to know which base will be best for you in a given situation, then if you needed the other base, you would be frustrated. Should your own "bean counter" complain about splurging for the set in a SYS 2, point out you could have also bought a second MFK 700!

I am so sorry I have no photos of my MFK 700s in action. You all must have seen edging clamps, the kind with a second pressure screw at a right angle to the main clamp.

Shane,

OK.  You convinced me.  I am gonna spend $720 plus $$$ for accessories and go out and get an OF 2200.  I really want a shot at that free subscription.
