Good afternoon everyone.  I am only asking this question on this forum because i trust the knowledge of the seasoned woodworkers on here.  I have a Powermatic 60HH jointer that I feel has more than normal vibration while running and definetly when powered down.  If i completely remove the belt the motor runs silky smooth.  Has anyone experienced this on their Powermatics?

the belt likely has some set in it from sitting a while, or its not tensioned properly. I would also suggest the link belt above. huge difference.

In addition, try these as well.

with the belt off, spin the head and check that it moves smoothly and doesn't have any play. Maybe wiggle the shaft a bit. On a newer machine you wouldn't think there would be bearing problems already but stuff happens.

Inspect the cutting head to make sure that all the cutters are still there ans fastened securely. See if if a chuck of wood has jammed itself in the head causing it to out of balance.

Make sure the machine itself is not wobbly and doesn't rock. Many floors aren't really level even if they look flat and level. If you have it on a mobile base, make sure that one or more of the casters hasn't flattened out causing an imbalance.

My old Grizzly rattled/vibrated. Replaced the belts with Continental at $7ea and now it's quiet.
