Came across a guy on my trip this week to New England selling rather sizable walnut cookies. Will probably have to go back up there in a couple weeks and will now plan on driving my pickup.
These cookies are about 40" diameter and 12/4 thick. He offers kiln drying but IIRC that will even out the color and remove the contrast between the heart and sap woods. I really like the contrast and want to preserve it as much as possible - which my understanding is that air dying will do this best.
My thought is to pick them up, truck them home and then air dry for a year or two. What's the best way to prevent the cookies from cracking further and splitting? Should they be coated in that green paint used for boards and slabs?
Thanks
