Pro 5 a "Must Have"?

I recently saw an ad for a used Pro 5 being offered for $200 and recall seeing some enthusiasm for that sander on this board. I currently use the ETS EC 150/3 and it certainly meets most of my needs. Just wondering if it's something that I should consider? Would there be any advantage to having the Pro 5?

If I recall correctly, the Pro5 is the same sander as the ETS 125 REQ.

They were sold at retail for $99, so a $200 listing is a 100% margin on an 8 year-old sander, not accounting for inflation.  The blackish-blue Systainer isn't collectible enough to be worth that sort of a markup.

It's a good sander, but if you really want a 125mm palm sander, wait for the ETS 125 REQ to come up on Recon, and get it for the same price but with a one year warranty.

IMHO.
 
I'm like Peter, my Pro 5 lives on the edge sanding guide.

To clarify my position:

The Pro5 is a great sander.  It's the same sander as the current ETS 125 REQ.

That particular specimen that is for sale for $200 is significantly over-priced, unless it also comes with the edge guide, in which case it's only slightly over-priced.
 
Thanks everyone. Your comments helps me tremendously. When the time comes and I'm ready for the edge sanding, I'll go with the 125 REQ!
 
Putting the edge guide aside, and in comparison to other Festool Sanders in the line up.  If you want a small orbit Random Orbit sander for fine sanding, or to just mildly sand clear finishes in prep for putting another coat on, the 125/Pro5 is a dream for that.
Very easy to control, and with a fairly fine stroke/orbit, you're in control of scuffing a clear finish for recoating or maintenance work on applying another coat like Varnish work. The smaller disc size allows it to fit into tighter spaces than say, my larger 150mm sanders.
 
I would like to have had one, back when they were initially offered, but they went to fast. They were gone before I even knew it was happening.
I did buy myself an edge sanding attachment, only to find out that it won't fit either of my ETS 125s. They are both too old for it. 2017 iirc?
Some day I'll run across one on Recon.

The Pro 5 is a pretty decent sander! I’ve used different sanders in the past, and while my go-to is a lighter model for most tasks, I’ve found having something like the Pro 5 can really help with heavier jobs. If you’re mostly satisfied with your ETS EC 150/3, you might not need it, but if you do any challenging work, the Pro 5 could save you some time. At $200, it sounds like a good deal, so if you’re curious about how it feels in your hand, it might be worth picking up just to see if it fits your style!

Apologies if I’m wrong, but you sound just like a bot. If I’m right, congratulations on sounding so much like a person.  [tongue]

What got me thinking you’re a bot is saying $200 is a good deal for a used version of something that costs $250 new. Then I read your post responding to the 18volt table saw thread. Too many fingers.
 
Is there a non politcal question you can ask in your search for whether a respondent is a bot or not?

In the UK we have Marmite which is a savoury spread made from yeast extract - a bi-product of the brewing industry.  Whether you like it or not is very divisive and they even marketed it as 'You either love it, or hate it' to the extent that this is widely accepted as fact - albeit somewhat tongue in cheek.  Inanimate objects, buildings and people have been described as Marmite and the inference is clear - that you cannot have a foot in both camps.  Quite simply, you either love it or hate it.

One of our popular DIY forums is frequented a lot by bots at present so I've started asking if they like Marmite in an attempt to root them out.  None of the suspects have replied yet and they might lie anyway but I thought I'd try.

Would not work here.

This is no bot. An actual human using LLM-generated posts for account harvesting .. this is an actual business in IN.
To be marketable, the accounts need to be "good-enough" so their actual scam/ad posts can "survive" long-enough to have the proper effect. These posts are the "seeding phase" of the scam.

For detail: the moment someone states with confidence that Pro 5 is for "heavy" work vis-a-vis ETS EC, one immediately knows this is LLM-generated.

The LLM, nor the poster, understand the FOG context, so does it "in general way" where Pro 5 is kinda heavy-duty compared to the Walmart level tools .. where this breaks is stating a Pro 5 is heavy duty compared to ETS EC ... no one, not even a total F novice, would ever state that.
 
My concern is the enthusiastic endorsement of a limited addition tool, that is no longer available and hasn't been for years. The reasonable response would be to offer that the ETS 125 is the same thing, minus the special color.
Then, you have the "heavier jobs" comment, clearly wrong. That would be an RO 125

What is the point of this though? Is there some way to gain something? (the LLM thing)

I'm also trying to understand what this LLM message thing brings to Kevison as he/she chimed in on 3-4 different threads around the same time yesterday.
