Pro 5 product name question

The PRO 5 LTD is only available through this promotion. It was always intended as a limited-run tool.

The PRO 5 LTD is essentially a revision of the ETS 125, which is still available.

After the current PRO 5 version is finally dead, I'd suggest renaming the ETS 125 with the new PRO 5 updates...ETS 125 PRO. Linking the old with the new...

Y'all might do yourself a world of favor by announcing that the the Pro5 will morph into the ETS125 or ETS400 or whatever next year to round out the line up with revised DTS and RTS models.  Might take some pressure off. 

Not doing so makes it look like you didn't update the ETS sander except for a crazy promotion that went sideways.  The faithful can't get the more powerful and variable speed ETS and they can't get a pro5 either now.  Makes it look like you're not on the cutting edge.

Well name it the ETS 125-2.5, indicating the 250 watts verse the 200 watts of the ETS 125.

Or  the ETS 125-2 for 2 amps verse the 1.67 amps of the ETS 125.

In use it actually does make a difference, enough to make me keep it

I rally wish they would have gone 3 amp to 3.3 amp in the Pro5. This could of put it first in its class. With small fine stroke sanders like this more power is so readily apparent. Try the Dewalt 2645 next to the ETS 125 or Pro 5 and anyone will instantly see what I mean. It's easier to get that non swirl finish with the slight increase in power, it just is. The Pro 5 proves this as its very small increase in power(50 watt) does make it better, it's marginal, but enough to make a difference.

Dovetail65 - I think that power thing makes for problematic optics for festool when the sanders cost $260.  At $99 most people will probably say ho hum. At 3x the going rate no amount of blue and green plastic, an xtra hole, or a detachable cord will make up for lack of horsepower in many people's eyes.

The ETS 125 cost 180.00. The 99 sander is basically the same sander on sale with more power. I dont understand your point at all. I was giving an idea for a new name, that's it.

We can't keep  the ETS 125 the same name if it now has 30% more power, that makes no sense at all. People need to know their is a difference between new and old models..

I don't think we need to worry about Festool figuring out how to make sure people know the difference between old and new generations of their tools.

Take the other orbitals for example, the new DTS and RTS are 'req' instead of 'eq' models, I believe.

Once this whole Pro 5 limited run runs its course, I would have to suspect -based on the pattern- that any new ETS 125 that rolls out with the new specs would follow suit in nomenclature with the rest of the orbital family.

On another but related note, what do Foggers do when they can't get tickets to the concert or ball game that they would really like to go to?

In the Euro Market, the ETS 125 is the Pro 5 with 250W, minus the blue,LTD sys of course.

You guys already have the new DTS and RTS sanders, there's no logical reason you shouldn't get the new ETS 125 REQ. Especially after seeing the demand for this promotion.

Festool USA is probably pondering now about how they should name it. Stay with the metric 125 designation or go for the more American friendly "5" to show it is a 5 inch model?

"Pro" is a dumb name for a professional tool. All those $29.99 tools you get in cheap stores are called "Pro".

My guess is that the "Pro" in Pro 5 probably refers to the fact that it is a promotion. In fact, I think it is called "Pro 5 ltd", with ltd referring to the limited promotion.

And this has always been the case as far as I know and was stated at the beginning, I think this thread went so long people just forgot this.
