Problems with a T12+3 drill

Hi, I am having some issues with a new drill that I recently bought and just wanted to ask here and see if I can get some input on it before I try and get help from Festool's customer service.

First, I'm pretty new to Festool, the drill was my first Festool purchase.  I live in Canada and I ordered it from an authorized dealer.  As far as I'm aware, they don't do that reconditioned sale deal here in Canada, but I found a company that had a 'discontinued model', which they told me was basically the same drill but in the old style systainer (and it came with a bit of a discount!).  I haven't had a chance to use it much yet, I've only drilled 4 holes and removed 1 screw with it.

Anyway, when the drill arrived, one battery was completely dead and wouldn't hold a charge (flashing red when I tried to charge it).  I called Festool service and they sent me a new battery.  The drill has stayed in the systainer with one battery in it for a good 3 weeks now, and when I pulled it out today, the battery in it was dead and caused a flashing red light on it when I put it in the charger.  I left it for a few hours and when I thought of it, I measured the pack's voltage and it was very low (~6V), but it now seems to charge on the charger.  I'm starting to think that there's a problem with the actual drill.  Could it be slowly shorting the battery that's in it causing a low voltage alarm when placed on the charger and pulling it out has allowed it to rebound enough to take a charge?  Or did I really get 2 bum batteries with the drill?

I know about batteries and I know that overdischarging them is not good for them and I'm worried that even though the battery now charges, it has been damaged.  Has anyone ever had this problem?

And to top it all off, I brought home a long bit to use in the bit holder and I can now clearly see that the bit holder is bent slightly, which causes the tip to wobble.  It was barely noticeable with the short bits (I thought I was going crazy), but with the long bits, its pretty much unusable.

I would send the drill back, but the 30 days has just passed yesterday, and since its a discontinued model, the company doesn't have another to replace it with.

I'm just looking for some advice; is this something that Festool customer service can help with?  Or am I just out of luck?  I'd just like to hear what anyone has to say about what I can do.

Hi Lee,

  Welcome to the FOG!  [smile]

Wish your first post was under better circumstances.  I am sure this will get worked out.

Seth

Lee,

Sorry to hear about your troubles.

My recommendation would be to contact our Canadian service department for assistance and send the drill, charger and batteries in for repair. They are in the best position to determine the cause of the problems and get it working properly. If you're adverse to sending it in, Claude or his team may be able to help troubleshoot over the phone. I will suggest that you make sure the battery is fully seated on the charger and indicates that it's in a charging state.

As for the long bits, this is a cordless drill, not a drill press, so a small amount isn't unusual. Again, the service team can check that for you if you send it in.
