prototypes

today my festool rep has paid me a visit on my jobsite along with the one and only creator of the Domino straight from Germany with two goodies to show off.  First was the impact driver which blew me away, all the bells and whistles on this bad boy, built in light, a sliding belt clip which you can switch from left to right side with a simple click, it accepts all of the extra attachments like the current driver t15-3 which are also interchangable between the units along with the batteries (angle attachment, 1/2"chuck....) it also has a speed adjustment but the coolest feature is the drill adapter which turns the impact driver into a regular drill with speed adjustments from 1000-2600 rpm if i can remember right. Thats right not only does it accept the 1/2" chuck but the adapter turns the impact action off so that you have a normal drill. It fit into a systeiner 1, price for it will be 460$ for the unit with battery, and 580$ for the kit with all the extra attachments like the t15-3.

Secondly the mega domino joiner, all features of the initial domino joiner except it bores dominos up to 14mm and they are like 5" long, you can join 3 pieces of 2x2 stock with a single domino, these things were massive along with the bits.  The machine still fit in a systeiner 2 but it was so cool it bore about 3" deep into the stock. the rep said that the mega domino will go for 900$ and the entire set with the starter kit and dominos will go for 1500$

Also i got word that festool is in the final stages of design on a folding kapex stand with wheels which will be an all in one unit to which the kapex can be mounted and rolled around like the bosch table saw stand.

These are all prototypes and were said to be out on the us market within the next year and a half.
The rep also gave me a cool storage box in the shape of a domino made of wood along with a cool domino keychain

Didn't really happen cause you don't have any pics!!!! LOL!!!

call your festool rep, and i don't mean your local supplier, i mean the festool representative for your area and ask if anyone is up from Germany showing off a couple prototypes, don't take my word for it, see yourself. In the mean time i'm goint to try to see if my rep will be kind enough to snap a few for me and email them.

thanks for the info mate. can you confirm that the impact driver was a festool and not a protool model? the protool model would be black and orange.
and can you confirm what voltage the batteries are? 18 volt or 15.4 volt?
and was the belt clip a plastic or stainless steel clip?

btw, i am glad to hear that festool have cleared up the issues with their existing cordless range. such as the built in light and belt clip.

regards, justin.

certainly festool, it was dark navy blue with bright green, the top had a stainless steel decal that said impact driver in red letters, brushless motor, it is 15.4v with a 2.6amp battery, the size was identical to my t15-3, the belt clip was stainless steel and you can slide it over from side to side, it looked like it was attached to the battery. the clip was very thin but very ridgid, the best part about the clip was that it was slightly angled to distribute the weight of the impact evenly while cliped on a pocket and when you had it out on a specific side the other side was flush to the battery. Just a great tool can't wait to scoop one up.

A portable stand for the Kapex?
Great, I was real close to buying the extensions for it.

Anyone want to buy a mft/3 kapex?

The impact does nothing for me but, the portable stand for the kapex gets me going.

Roger got the same visit a week and a half ago in Malibu
but I got the impression he was supposed to keep mum about it.....

Well, that's that for my old Domino.  Hopelessly outclassed.  Even if the stroke is the same you'll get significantly wider mortises simply because the bit is 2" longer.  Well, I can't afford to be without it and I can't afford another and the value of this one will now start to decrease to zero within a few months of the release of the new one so I won't be able to get anything for it.  I suppose I'll just wait until the patents expire and get the Harbor Freight Mortiser for $139 plus $20 for the two year replacement warranty.

In the interest of full disclosure, Michael is a true trusted friend.

Foggers,

It was accurately noted to me that this is not a tool review and this thread should be moved to the proper area.  I realize many are viewing this thread, so if anything happens during the move I apologize - I am not altering - I can't - just moving.

Thank you for your understanding.

Peter

Well, it's not like I don't know how to write a review,
but the folks over at "Control",
haven't lifted the "Cone of Silence",
for those that might have seen any UTO's on the West Coast.

Cool!  I can see it now...bridle joints and through-tenons in all my new furniture.  At this very moment I'm trying to figure out how many convenience stores I'll have to rob to come up with $1500 for this thing, and hoping Rick Christopherson is working on a large version of his adjustable centering accessory.

Regards,

John
