My guess: a contact somewhere at the motor, around where the wire would lead to when the case it assembled.
Just move the end around (without twisting or exessively bending the wire) to see where it can reach (your target should be in the general area where it ends now), most likely you'll find the broken off end (without insulation) in a blob of solder.
