Question about BH 60 impact bit holder

First off i have spoke to my dealer over this but not quite happy with the reply.

Last week i purchased  a Ti 15 basic, yesterday i had time to look at it properly. The bit holder supplied with it is the same as the one supplied with my CXS earlier in the year.  The standard one with the 2 grooves to the rear of the holder. Both are the same diameter and wall thickness.

All the images show the impact bit holder as having no grooves in the body.

So the question is, is the impact bit holder now supplied as standard with all drills? As that is what my dealer thinks, as the rest of their stock of Ti 15's have the holder with the grooves in it.

Dealers are list this code 498974 as the one for the impact bit holder.
This one http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Festool-492539-Bit-holder-BH-60-CE-/390534813269?pt=UK_Baby_BabyFeedingUtensils_EH&hash=item5aedb05655

I would like to know which holder is which before i contact my dealer again. If anyone from Festool Shane/ Phil  can shed some light on this, or anyone else. I would much appreciate it.

TIA

I know that in the US all drills now include the same bit holder, which was originally included only with the TI15 impact.

Festool UK would need to verify the same there, but I suspect it was a worldwide change in the scope of delivery for all drills.

Thank you Shane. I think Festool could do with updating the images used then.  [big grin]

I couldn't find an image of this bit holder with the 2 grooves, only the one used for impact gun.

Carl,

We definitely don't have photos of every single item. If products are similar for the most part, we only have a single image to use.

Sorry for any confusion that created. The impact bit holder has a thicker wall than the previous, non-impact version. There's also a different product number.

Shane

Carl,
Could you post pictures?  I'm curious about this grooves.  My CXS is a couple of years and as such, pre-impact bit holder.  The main difference I notice between the bit holder that came with it, and the one that came with my TI15, is that the TI15 holder has a green band.  Some dealers list both holders, with the impact holder being a few dollars more.  It doesn't really surprise me that the are dropping the other.  When I thought I had lost my original bit holder, I had planned on buying an impact rated one to replace it.

I don't know what is supposed to be happening now, but I can tell you what happened with my drills (2013 delivery).

I had the "BH 60 imp" with my TI15 and the "BH 60" with my T15 and CXS.

The wall of the "BH 60 imp" (on the left) is quite a bit thicker than the "BH 60", but it looks like there's a single part number at retail and they show the image for the "BH 60". I can see why you're confused; so am I now!

Looks like Garry has done it for us.

I have the lower of the 2 in the pictures.

See now i am more confused than before. All the images in google show the impact version as per your top one and with the matching stamp on the shank.

I have the one with the 2 grooves and neither of them have any stamp for the version on the shank.

EDIT

I have just re looked at the one with the Ti 15 and with a magnifying glass i could just about see a - BH60 imp stamp on the shank.  [embarassed]

So i guess it was a world wide choice to include it with all drills.
I guess i was confused as the CXS was my 1st drill so i could only go by what was supplied with that. I think the panic is over now.  [thanks]

I think maybe we are getting too complicated here. If it has the thick wall, it's the impact version. Plain and simple.

Forget the grooves, stamps and rings. You can put a ring on anything and that doesn't make it impact-ready.  [wink]

The old, non-impact BH 60 was 492539. The current, impact BH 60 is 498974.

This is very true Shane. But unless you had a thin wall version to compare it with, how would you know?  [embarassed]

PS

Edited comment above.  [wink]

From the photos in the thread.  [big grin]

Or, more obviously from the product number.

I'll have to check tonight, I didn't think the one that came with my TI15 had those grooves.  I also thought it was the same diameter as the one that came with my CXS.

Also true, but again without a thin wall version in front of me to see the exact thickness of the walls  [wink]

True, but not quite so easy to identify when the supplied bit holder with a drill comes without packaging.  [big grin]

Thank you all for the help. I can look forward to using my new drills at work on wednesday now.  [drooling]

I checked and my impact holder is thicker and it does have the grooves.  And as far as the green band, it's just a rubber band.  There's not even a groove to keep it in place.  Completely neutral observation.  It's just not how I initially thought it was.

I got the TI 15 basic also... my bit holder has an "I" engraved/stamped on it... i assume for "impact"
