Question about Carvex 420 EBQ

I purchased the Festool Carvex 420 EBQ Jigsaw with the accessory kit and when I opened the jigsaw sustainer I noticed that the package of blades that came with the unit were opened, but the unit didn't seem to be used. I have purchased 13 Festool products and countless attachments, and accessories and all of those products came with the contents completely sealed.  Maybe the 420 had been tested using one of those blades, but I now wonder if this could be a reconditioned unit, or one that was returned to the store by a customer prior to the 30 day mark, then sold to me. Since none of my other Festool equipment seemed to be "individually tested", I'm leaning toward the 420 being a reconditioned or returned unit.  If anyone has additional information on this subject I would appreciate their input.

To the best of my knowledge dealers are not allowed to sell returned or reconditioned tools, so I would guess that yours is a new tool.  If yours came from a brick and morter dealer then i would guess that the blade package was opened by someone who was curious about the blades or how to put a blade in the saw.  If the blades aren't dirty or show wear then I wouldn't worry.  Of course you could talk to your dealer about your aituation.

Please accept my apologies for the inconvenience. I would only be speculating if I guessed why the blades were opened. If the blades don't look used and none are missing, I wonder if it was used to show someone a blade. But, as Peter suggested, contact your dealer. They are in the best position to tell you why the blades were opened. Dealers should never resell a used tool. If you are concerned, simply exchange it for another unit under our 30 day return program.

Thanks for your input on the subject, and by the way I purchased it at a highly respected woodworking shop and I plan to talk to them about the situation.  Also, the package of blades and saw show no signs of use.  Your explanation, that the store might have opened the saw to show a customer how the blade is installed, sounded like the most likely situation, but just after that I found another person that had experienced the exact same thing, so I now question the likelihood of this happening in two separate stores to the exact same model.  It seems more like the manufacturer might have checked that the blade can be inserted and released with no problems, but even this explanation doesn't hold water, as I would think that if they just wanted to check this function they would use a spare blade rather than opening the blades supplied in the package.

I'm probably making too much of the situation, but I have never had this happen to any other Festool product I have ever purchased.  If anyone out there has bought one of these saws and found the package of blades opened please let me know.
