Question about dust collector

I just received my order for an RO150 FEQ and CT 36 dust collector my
question is these were sold as a combo set but the extractor came with a
black hose that doesn't fit the sander. Also the extractor has a knocking
noise. What's that all about?
I've read about the sander jumping around but that's another topic.
Any response will be greatly appreciated. I'm
at a lose as to how I should approach this.

There should have been a green anti-static 27mm hose included in this. Sounds like you potentially got a floor model? The box of the vac must have been opened at the minimum....

I'm sure you did but in case you did not inside the vac are various parts you Executive Director to take out before use.

Hi,

 

      It is most likely that the vac is a CT36 AC (Auto Clean) as opposed to a CT36. The vac you have was designed to be used with the Planex drywall sander. The knocking sound is the auto-clean feature thumping the filter to knock dust loose.

    Though it is possible to use the AC vac for general wood working you may be better off getting that swapped for the regular AC vac. The regular vac will also have a HEPA filter and the AC does not.

Thanks for the replies. That's exactly what I have, a ct36ac
I don't know how I did that as I said, at least I thought I was
getting a combo.
How do I go about trading it for a regular ct 36?
Or in you're opinion should l just switch the ends to accommodate
a sander? I really don't know what the plastic bag is for
can't imagine ever using it.

    The plastic bag is intended for drywall dust. The AC uses that bag in an open top fashion (open to the filters). That way when the filter is thumped the dust falls back into the bag. The regular CT36 uses a closed cloth filter bag that is sealable and disposable. The Festool vacs are designed to be used with bags.

    I suggest you contact your dealer about making a swap.

Just want to point out that there is nothing wrong with using a CT36AC as a regular vac if that is what you wish to do. You should check whether this got sent to you in error or whether you paid for the AC. There is a pretty significant difference in price that would be wasted for routine vacuum operation.

If you do choose to use it, simply turn the autoclean (frequency) dial to off and install a standard bag.

Is it because the rest of the AC vac doesn't meet HEPA specs, so there's no point in putting a HEPA filter on it? Or does the self cleaning process damage the filter in some manner?

Even with the auto-clean thump. The HEPA filter being open to the dust would clog too quickly with drywall dust.

I got this from CPO and yes it clearly states it's  AC. I should have come here first. I didn't realize
what that meant. Thought it was a stocking number or something like it.
I've drywalled, really don't want to ever again.  [crying]

If you install a standard CT36 HEPA filter (and collection bag of course), the vacuum will perform the same as a standard CT36. The only thing it won't have is the specific HEPA certification, simply because it was never tested as such. It doesn't necessarily mean the performance is any less; just that it doesn't have the certification documentation.
