Wondering if anyone has sent a tool for repair to the Ontario service centre and how it went?

I am a newbie where Festools are concerned, but have used many other brands for my wood working hobby.

Firstly, let me say that the Festools USA rep has responded to my problem and arranged a replacement HL 850. Thank you!!!

For a recent project I felt the need for an electric planer and splurged on an HL 850. It was great except that for an alignment problem with the front/back plates and the standard blade/head; set at 0mm, the blade would remove 1-2mm from a board. The front alignment screw was seized, tried WD40, so it could not be adjusted.  I had to either exchange it at the dealer (it less than 30 days old) for a new one or send in for repair. I let the dealer talk me into sending it in for repair.

The planer returned from the service centre with aligned front / back plates and blade.  The catch was both plates were noticeably scratched. As if the planer had been run repeated over a piece of metal and looked as if old parts were used in the repair.  I contacted the service centre with photos to support my concern and disappointment that used scratched parts was considered sufficient to repair a relatively new unit.  The service centre rep agreed that I should submit another repair request and send back the planer to replace the plates.

On the second repair request, I noted that while the 2 day turnaround time is great, for my purposes as a hobbyist I would rather the service centre take time to ensure a quality repair instead of rushing.

Jumping to end, the planer was returned within the 2 day turnaround.  New front plate with a protective sticker. Back plate was not as pristine, but was scratch free and acceptable.  What was not acceptable was a new dent in the plastic motor housing; looked like the planer had been dropped.  This planer was less than 30 days old and it was being returned with extra damage.

So, I would like to hear if other Festool owners in Ontario have had similar problems or better service results, and whether there are alternate repair centres which I can use in the future?

Thanks for your time,

Anthony

When I sent in the track saw for the recall, it took a LONG time get it back. As opposed to the USA customers. I suspect that it was just a forwarding station and they sent it to the US when they had enough units to ship. The tracking info said it arrived and was left in front of the garage. Go figure.

Go to Google maps and have a look at the address. Not very inspiring.

Cheers,

Peter
