Dust collection question for router table and bandsaw.
I have 14” bandsaw that has 2 2-1/4” dust ports. Also router table has 2-1/4” dust port and second port is on triton router so it’s probably 1”
Trying to figure out what works better mini gorilla dust collector with y reducer to 2 2-1/4” hoses or festool ct-48 with the cms-ge dual hose.
What would give me better dust collection for these 2 uses?

Thank you

I have both vacuums (dust extractors) and blowers (dust collectors) in my shop. In general, I use dust collection for heavy chip producers and dust extraction for fine dust producers. The notable exception is my table saw, where I use a dust collector, even though it produces very fine particle dust.

When I am going to use my router table for an extended period of time, I put a dust collector with a 4" port on the downdraft cabinet and a dust extractor with a 50mm hose on the fence. For shorter runs, I have a manifold that connects both ports to the dust collector.

Think of a dust extractor as "high velocity, low volume"...small particles where the machine is starting them on their journey already work fairly well and the small container is not much of a limitation.

Dust collectors are "low velocity, high volume"...they're able to move larger chips and shavings (jointer and planer, for example) and their larger containers handle the chip load better.

That was a long wind-up to my pitch that the Mini-Gorilla is poorly designed. The blower is fine, the cyclone is fine, the filter is fine, but it dumps into a tiny 15 gallon container that is an absolute nightmare to empty. And, there's no option for a larger container. It fills up in about 20 minutes of running a thickness planer.

If it were never going to be used on anything except a table saw and/or band saw, it might be an acceptable option, but for a jointer, planer or router table, I would keep looking. I'd rather use an extractor and pay for the expensive bags than fight with that Mini-Gorilla to get the container on and off.

Thanks Jeff.  I already have mini gorilla and have been using it (not heavily) for past 6 months.  No complaints.  It works fine and actually bin is fairly easy to empty.  Yes its small but its on casters and only 3 clips so not too bad.  Using the bags its a simple process and also because its 15 gallons, its not too heavy lol.  I actually chose it for its size.  I was looking at mini gorilla and supercell.  Supercell was out of my budget and mini gorilla I bought right before prices shot up.  I just recently got a 6" jointer with helical head so just tested it with mini gorilla but didn't use it for a production run yet.  My planer is dewalt 735 so i can bypass mini gorilla and connect it right to the bag or a garbage can and let the impaler fan do its work.  I haven't used it yet as well but have a project coming up where I would be using rough lumber.  From what I can tell direct to bag works fine with it.

For the router I have your freehand guard that I just got and MacGyvered CMS-GE dual hose setup with few adapaters from festool to the freehand guard and triton router.  Seems to work ok.  I can use the same setup with my bandsaw for now and see how it goes.  I have a custom router insert wing on my table saw and bought an Incra Ultra fence with it, still need to figure out how to best connect it and use it.

As long as you're not using the Mini-Gorilla with a planer, you'll probably love it. I liked it on the table saw, for sure.
