Guys,
I have a chance to buy what looks like a great lightly used Laguna Bandsaw model #LT16HD: 12" resaw, 16" throat,31/2 HP motor, 1/8" to 13/8" blade capacity,
rolling base, extra blades.

What's a good price and do any of you have this machine?

Thanks,
Frank

I have used one and it's a fantastic machine. Price is very dependant on age, condition and location. I saw one here for $2000 that sat unsold for quite a while. I'm sure in other markets it would have been scooped up real quick.
Hope this helps.

I have one of original the LT 18HD and love it! On the one you spotted, I would think anything around $1500 or less would be a GREAT price.

I own the Laguna 1412, it's their 14" bandsaw. I absolutely love it, it's well built and does a fantastic job re-sawing. I would buy another in a minute. Can't help you on the price sorry,

I have the Laguna Italian LT20 and it is an incredible workhorse.... and a MONSTER! [scared] (Got the 20 instead of the 18 just to one-up Paul-Marcel's 18! [poke]

I also have the 14" Laguna SUV and it is also very well made.

No question that Laguna has bandsaws nailed!

I'd ask the seller what the lowest he can take for the bandsaw, and if it's in good shape, and the price he gives you is at least 30% below new retail, I'd buy it. (Especially if the motor is a Baldor)

Cheers,

Frank

I re-read your original posting. The LT16 HD IS an Italian-made saw. Laguna had a pretty significant price increase at the beginning of the year, so you need to take that into account when you consider what the seller probably paid for it.  If any of the blades are Resaw Kings from Laguna, they are worth $$ and can be resharpened 3-4 times.
If I was in your shoes, I'd buy for anything less than $2300 if it's in good shape.

What concerns me is the 3 1/2 HP motor. The LT16HD comes with a 4.5HP Baldor motor, or at least it does now. (I'm not sure if earlier versions of the 16" came with 3.5 or not)
Make SURE you are getting the Italian saw. If the saw is actually a 3000 series or earlier LT 16, it may be a Taiwan mfr'd saw. Nothing wrong with that because Laguna quality control is very good in Taiwan on their bandsaws...BUT... it is not worth the same as an Italian. The easiest way to tell is whether it has a Baldor motor or not.  If it's Baldor, it's Italian...otherwise the Leeson and TEFC motors are on their Taiwan manufactured saws.

$1800 most for the saw if it's Taiwan. Just my recommendation.

Frank

I think that if it is the Italian saw it would be a good machine, but I would probably not pay anything more than $1,200 or so.  It sounds like it has the older Italian motor which was OK power wise, but they run hot and no where near the torque of the Baldor motors.  Also, the newer machines have the ceramic guides vs. the old-style European guides. I think resaw height is fine - having more than 12 inches is slightly overkill for most things unless you are working with huge slabs or turn bowls or something. I have an older LT18 that I have upgraded to the new motor and guides and it is now a great machine. I still would like a bigger one for increased throat depth, not resaw.
