So that makes 2013 worse then older oneskevinculle said:I have a 2009 KS120 EB that has been trouble free...it is my impression that the motor troubles were predominately in the later years of KS120 EB production.
Not really great. $850ChuckS said:Only the EB saws that went smoky were not ok. Of course, because Festool wasn't transparent enough, we don't know how good or how bad the pre-REB saws really are.
Mine ,EB, was bought in 2015 (could be made in 2014), wonderful in all aspects (without any of the out of alignment fence/non-flat table, etc. issues that some REB owners have reported). Of the several local EB owners I know here, none have had the motor problem, either. I run the EB regularly as I'm an active hobby woodworker.
Interestingly enough, since the REB came out, I haven't heard too much about EB motors smoking out in this Forum. Have you?
If the motor of a EB burns out, the repair will be a new REB motor. If the price offered is really great, even allowing for the cost of a potential motor replacement, I might give it a look.
Thank you for the info. I can always get refurbished one for 1200ChuckS said:Knowing what I know about the motor issue on THIS forum, and zero motor burn-outs I am aware of locally, I'd counter offer $650 - $700, and take the risk, subject to a user acceptance test (checking on the fence, table, true & square, miter and bevels, trench cuts, etc. -- I'll bring scraps along to verify precision). If there's something like a non-flat bed that's hard to fix, I'd walk away.
I have a local Festool vendor that I can drop off tools for shipping and repairs; my estimated repair cost for a new motor would be $300 - $350US. The revised cost of an EB, $1000 vs a new REB, $1600 (local quote for a new REB) still sounds appealing to me.
Yep it’s on recon site. It pops up for $1181 or 1106 plus tax. Comes with one year warranty from festoolChuckS said:Such deals are not available to us Canadians. The $1,200 deal is very reasonable as it includes warranty (?).
