Quiet Air compressor

I have both a Rolair JC-10 and CAT 4620A.  The CAT I was very hesitant about getting due to quality control issues.  However, it was the only "quiet" model in the price range that was still portable and able to put out over 5 CFM @ 90.  I got lucky I suppose - no problems and has been working great.

On the flip side, I have been having an intermittent issue recently with my Rolair - it often fails to recharge automatically unless the switch is flipped...need to troubleshoot that at some point.

I ad the same problem with my JC 10.  I lives year round out in my equipment barn.  I have no door and it stays close to the opening.  I would keep it further from the weather, but with all my LS equipment under cover, I would need to either climb over mowers and spreaders. or move something outside to get at the compressor if needed.  So, it stays semi exposed.  If I use it to oil my sno plow and sander, it is usually well below freezing when I use it and either I cannot turn the drain, or it does no good to turn it due to a condition known as "ice".

This spring, I need to put air in the tires of some of my equipment and could not get enough air pressure for the safety valve to close.  I got a new valve which proved not to be my problem.  A little further investigation and I decided the problem was the solenoid unloader (part #JC 800-52 unloader)  I called Rolair and they sent me a new  one which I offered to pay for, but it came free of charge.  I think that my problem was caused by ice getting into the part from using in the extreme cold weather. I now leave the drain open all the time except when I actually use the compressor.  That way, the forces of nature have less chance to work magic.

[member=13462]live4ever[/member] ,it might be your problem with the switch might be the same as my problem with the machine running but not activating the switch.

What are people in the UK using for a quiet compressor?
A rolair jc10 would be amazing to have in the UK  [crying]
My old compressor shakes the house down and makes a terrible noise.

I use the senco pc1010 its pretty quiet.

Do you use it for skirting / architrave?
how would it handle a small blow gun, great for cleaning the chainsaw and tools etc.

cheers

I use it with an 18g and 16g bradder. It will work with a blowgun but not constantly. I can fire about 6 x 16g before it refills , which is fine for me.

I've also got a stapler and a masonry t nailer I use my bigger compressors for that

Be careful with these.

I have a very early CAT-10020 that is great. It was about $575 at the time.

I bought a newer CAT-6310 that was super sale at about $150 instead of $250 at the time. It is poor at best.

I see they are now much less than they used to be and think they are cutting corners.

It all depends on the exact model. Research shows that certain CAT units get almost a 100% rating for years and years while some other units, both old and new models, get very middle of the road rating to even poor ratings. The same can be said for Festool or any tool company.

So yeah check the model number and research.

This unit I can recommend as I have had zero issues with it, again only for the US and Canadian guys:
