I may be the odd guy out once again. I decided to switch out of Rotex mode and into random orbit to see if it actually did leave a smoother finish on the wood. Using grant 40 grit stripping a think varathane floor finish. I am surprised I am at the point where one handing the ro90 in Rotex is plenty doable and how I use it most of the time but in random orbit more I couldn't do it. I assume I have a new set of muscle memories to create but that surprised me as I thought it would be the easier of the two-round modes to use. Perhaps it wasn't meant to used with heavy grits on random orbit mde. But I am a bit shocked.

I rarely shift out of Rotex mode on mine, but I do occasionally, especially when working with solid-surface material. I have not noticed this issue, but never did it with 40 grit either?
