Just got my RAS and am stripping some old shutters with it. I am using it on speed 1 and it was going into thermal overload protection and when I went to take the paper off it almost pulled the whole stick fix thing off of the bottom of the tool. I am not pushing on the sander at all and this is after about an hour of use. Is this normal?

I have found that the pad does wear out faster then my Rotex.

The first RAS I got, got really hot, so hot, I needed a rag to hang on to it.  It would stall out quite frequently, so I finished what I needed to do and then picked up the phone.

I talked to Lester and decided to send it back for repairs.  They put a new armature in it.
Got it back and it ran fine, stalled out a bit but, not like before.
This time it got so hot after you shut it off, I thought it would catch fire.

Picked up the phone, talked to Lester or David, sent it back again.
I got a new sander back and have had 0 issues from this one.

So it looks like I'm gonna have to get on the phone tomorrow.  This sander does what i need it to do extremely well so I may have to deal with the issue for a week or so.

That's what I did.

I don't know if there is a break in period on this sander, maybe the heat will subside.

I found that when it stalled just pulling it off the material and letting it idle for a second or two did the trick.

I had the same trouble with mine...  Found that if I leave it running for a bit after stripping, it cools itself down enough.( internal fan??? )  I also found, once I became brave enough..., that if I just left it running while I worked on my paint stripping projects ( upside down on the MFT ), it never really got that hot!  Before, it would really cook if I ran it, shut it off, set it down, then started it again to continue...I mean really cook!
Hope that helps and I'm sorry for promoting some unsafe tool practice...  That's the only solution I've found.
P.S., Boy Howdy, what a great little shaper/stripper though!  [big grin]

Looks like shes gonna go in for service.  It wouldn't run for more than 5 minutes yesterday before stalling out.  Funny thing is it seemed to get hotter as it sat after i turned it off.  I wish I could get a replacement but apparently they are back ordered from Germany and no one is getting any until probably September, so I'm opting for the try and fix it route as this thing is really going to cut down the time it takes to do the job I'm on.  I wouldn't let this discourage anyone from buying though as this really is a fantastic little sander.

Can't you return it and just purchase from Festooljunkie, it seems they may have some.

Talked to Tim already, non in stock he tried to set me up with another dealer but no luck there either.  These things are like gold right now i suppose.  Already mailed it in so well see what goes on.  Thanks though.
