Re: Work Gloves

Generally, I have had pretty good luck with the run-of-the-mill gloves from the big box stores for demo work and such (>$10 per pr.)

However, I am involved in a rather large stone masonry project and seem to be going through (figuratively and literally) a pair of gloves everyday. I set about doing an Internet search with the results a bit overwhelming. Anyone have any suggestions for a light weight durable work glove for masonry work?

I can't speak as to which gloves are good for mason work, but mechanix gloves are great.  Great fit, durable, decent price (cheaper if you buy them direct online).

Everyone uses latex palm gloves over here, they come in various thickness to suit the weher and what your doing

These gloves are good for masonry work. I wear them for anything that is hard on gloves. They are tough as nails and a great value.

Are you talking about these exact gloves, Dean? The quality of this style of leather palm glove varies tremendously.

I shoveled 30 yards of gravel into a wheelbarrow at the bottom of my driveway and distributed it all around my 1/4 acre lot with one pair. With the same pair, I also moved 3 pallets of limestone chop and slabs to various places, mixed up a 70-lb bag of mortar to turn some of them into stoops and walls, dug out and moved about 10 yards of dirt and rock, and planted some bamboo. That was my outdoor transformation project last year. That same pair of gloves is still going strong.

I have had similar style gloves that couldn't last through one day without coming apart.

Maybe you just work a lot harder than I do?

30 yards of gravel into one wheelbarrow?  No picture--didn't happen!  Better yet, how about a video of you moving that wheelbarrow full of 30 yards of gravel?

It was sort of two projects, one in the Summer and a continuation/expansion in the Fall.
