Has anyone rebuilt a TDK battery pack?  Mine are both at the point that they are annoying.  I've rebuilt my battery packs for my mountain bike lighting, but never done one for power tools.  I am also considering sending them to one of the services that will rebuild 12V packs for $35, but don't know if they have done Festool stuff.  I'm considering opening one of them up, but don't want to make a $100 mistake if there's a good chance I'll break something.  Anyone?

Hi,

I have used a battery rebuild service with good results for  some DW12v. I don't see why they woould not be able to do Festool just as well. For the money I would let the pros do it rather than DIY.

Jay-I'm guessing you're out of warranty?  Mine weren't holding a charge and they replaced them for me, no charge (no pun intended) except for my shipping costs to them, as per warranty. I think they were a little over two years old.  You might talk to them about it, since if I recall you've had this issue for a while.

Unfortunately I bought mine as a refurb, so only 1 year warranty.  Otherwise I would probably still be under warranty.  I suspect the batteries were bad when I got it, but not as bad as now.  At this point, the batteries won't hold any charge overnight and when charged I get a limited amount of use.  If it wasn't for the quick charging I probably would've dealt with this at least a year ago.

You know, now that they are extending the 3 year warranty to used tools as well, might be worth checking with them and seeing what they say.

Sometimes, the best thing to do is box em up and send them to the company with your story - a lot of times, they'll do the right thing, whereas if you call they'll just give you the company policy line.

    HI,

I actually did that once with some cr$%%^  batteries on a factory recon  DW drill. The local service center had given me a run around. Not only did I get the batteries but I got a brand new drill!  :o
