Whats up guys my boss ordered me a Kapex and the cart\stand for 10 years of work. [big grin]
do you have any tips that i should know, i have read on the motor issues hopefully that was the past.
any info would be great guys. thanks angel

First; Congratulations on getting the Kapex..... Keep your blades clean and free of pitch and resin like you would on any saw blade... Research all the threads on using the Kapex... When it’s time to get your blades sharpened, find someone who knows how to work with the Kapex blades since they’re not exactly like standard blades here in the US.... [thumbs up]

When you unpack the unit, keep a sharp lookout for a tiny Allen wrench that sometimes is loose in the box. You will need that for adjusting the lasers.

Read the manual before assembling the unit. Read the laser adjustment section a couple of times before doing the actual adjustment. The process if fussy. My lasers have stayed adjusted from the initial setup.

Be sure you know how to unlock the left-right miter control before moving the head around. It’s in the manual. Basically, any thing that’s green controls an adjustment.

I hook a Festool vac to my Kapex through a shortened wide diameter hose. Several of the Festool vendors sell these. The short wide hose really improves dust collection. Dust collection efficiency varies with the type of cut. It varies from very good to soso.

I let the vac run for a few seconds before starting the cut. That seems to improve dust collection a lot.

CRITICAL.... let the blade stop completely before lifting the blade out of the cut. Failure do do so can launch offcuts at great speed toward your body.

The fences are moveable. Some people have not checked the blade path before starting a cut and cut into their fence.

I replaced the blade cutout (where the blade drops below the saw base) with an aftermarket insert from Betterly ( not sure on spelling). I get cleaner cuts.

I vacuum all my tools, including the Kapex, at the end of the day. I think avoiding dust buildup keeps the tools running better and l like coming into a clean shop in the morning.

I’ve used my Kapex for many years and have never encountered a problem. I use it but I don’t abuse it.

Please enjoy your new Kapex, it’s a great tool.

Make a zero clearance fence for the vertical fence.  several sources here on the FOG for how to do that.  This also helps with dust collection and controlling cut-offs.  Like someone else mentioned, be sure to move the fence when changing from 90 degree to miter cuts, as you'll need more clearance for blade angle and will cut off your ZC add-on.

Now that's a loyalty reward -- give your boss a big wet kiss.

In addition to checking for squareness and making any needed adjustments to the mitre stops, I would also check squareness with the saw tilted at a 45 degree bevel.  I got a fair amount of deflection on extreme bevel cuts out of the box, but I sent in the saw to service and got the problem fixed.

Congratulations...you've got a great boss. For my ten years I was given a service pin...about the size of a dime.  [tongue]

I'd suggest you download the supplemental manual by Rick Christopherson, he still hangs out here from time to time.
https://www.festoolusa.com/service/owners-manuals#Saws

Here's also a good read by Brice Burrell, he still shows up here on a daily basis.

You could also go to festool Tv. There are a lot of informative videos on the different applications that the Kapex can do and what the green buttons can do. remember,  if its green plastic button, lever etc on a festool it does something.

Cool thanks for the tips, keep them coming.  i don't remember but i saw a post where someone said that you must made a dedicated cord for this saw. not sure why though have you heard of this guys. thanks angel

I would not mess with the power cord. Probably a warranty issue. I plug my Kapex into my Festool vac. Works fine.

Mine was buried into the foam.

First don’t quit that job. Then congratulations!  I have had mine for several years with no problems. Keep clean and use it.

Except the black latch (that locks the bevel) around the big green knob (you set the limits for bevel with) on top of the back.

This. Have fun with it.

On Safety:
Keep your fingers out of the zones marked to keep them out of, and always check fence clearence after changing cut geometry - as it's a sliding one the blade travels into places one dosn't initially expect (especially on compound bevel/miter) when looking at it in at rest position.
Always let the blade fully stop before raising the head, always let it spin up fully before doing a cut.
Never clamp the workpiece on both sides.

On Setup:
Initially check the alignment of everything with some test cuts. Adjusting the offset of the wings (to get the scales on them to be precise) is simple, adjusting the Lasers can be tricky the first time (stick to the supplemental manual and keep in mind that they can bounce off the blade should you tilt them too much toward it), adjusting the bevel/miter is complete unfun but doable if needed.
In doubt keep in mind that you have service all included with the tool, which also covers calibration issues and includes shipping.
Get/make a zero clearance insert and sacrificial wooden back fence, that will greatly improve quality of cut by removing tearout and reduce the amount of dust spewn around.

On Use:
Do two cuts (first one out some mm wider than the blade) when cutting stock that has internal stress, while the first might deflect a bit the second one will be perfectly square.
Clamping the workpiece gives better results and prevents accidents, never clamp the workpiece on both sides.

Congrats.

It really is a fantastic tool.  However, you need to use it as much as you can before the 3 year warranty period expires.  If the motor goes out before then you are covered.  This is the only issue with the saw that I can see.  Everything else is top notch.  My 3 years is up in June.  I'm building a fence, so I'm using it like crazy.  If it's destined to fail, it better be now before the warranty expires.

Pretty cool recognition! I remember flying some years ago and the fight attendant got a gift for her 30 years of service... a 50$ gift card...blew my mind.

My only advice for the kapex would be take your time to set it up right. The cart/extensions also need to be set up properly.

Nice! Congrats! And yea I got nothing for my 10 years. Thankfully theres a pension! At 25 I think they give you some $100 gift of your choosing. Just a bunch of garbage knick knacks.

So here it is, got a nice surprise added to this wonderful gift a drill set too. [big grin][attachimg=1]

Wait! What?

At work they call me the Muffin Man because I bring them muffins every weekly team meetings  [eek] After 18 years at the same place, they never even get me out for lunch at my B-Day  [sad]

Awesome and congrats to you. You must do the right thing for them  [big grin]
