I am planning on building a couple pillars/posts to support a granite overhang to be approx 3"x3" wide. Initially I was going to go with solid stock, but I am now thinking of getting some hard maple 1x4's and going that route since the solid stock may move more and cost more to boot.
For seamless corners that won't open up, I am thinking about a lock miter joint on the router table. I wondered what the preferred joint would be for an application like this (I assume it is similar to a jewelry box or other finished edge construction.) The lock miter seems like a pretty solid choice, but i thought I'd solicit opinions.
Also, if the lock miter is the way to go, any of you CMS users have a bit you like? Having the CMS with it's smaller opening makes finding horizontal bits a little tricky (I think the max cutter diameter is 2 11/32", or 60mm which eliminates many bits).
