There appear to be two discrepancies here - differing part numbers and differing quantities in the pack. The first is easier to explain than the second...

I just receive some replacement bits for the 3.5mm counter sink #491795... On the box there is a sticker with the part number #491795 which might have been added by the dealer.
Under the sticker there is a Festool sticker with part number #494445 and the mention 5x TIN D 3,5/BSTA/5.
So we have two part numbers for the 3.5mm replacement bit - 491795 and 494445.
The current on-line USA Festool catalogue in PDF format says:
The printed 2005-2006 UK catalogue says:
The current on-line 2007 UK catalogue in PDF format says:
From these catalogues, we see that...
3.5mm bit is 491795 in US 2007 and UK 2005 catalogues, but 494445 in UK 2007 catalogue
4.5mm bit is 493274 in US 2007 and UK 2005 catalogues, but 494446 in UK 2007 catalogue
5.0mm bit is 491794 in all US and UK catalogues
It therefore seems that Festool is in the process of changing the part numbers of the 3.5 and 4.5mm bits, so when Emmanuel got a packet which had both 491795 and 494445 part numbers, they both refer to the same diameter of bit.
As regards quantities, in each case shown above, the quantity is shown as "1", which implies that if you order any of these part numbers, you get just one replacement bit. It is consistent, but also consistently expensive! However this is where things start to get very cloudy.
Note the UK designation of the 3.5mm bit - TIN D3.5 F.BSTA. This presumably decodes as "Titanium Nitride coating, diameter 3.5mm, for BSTA counterbore with depth stop". This relates quite well to the packet Emmanuel got, which was marked "TIN D 3,5/BSTA/5", but note the /5 at the end. This seems to indicate a packet of 5.
The
UK Festool Price List shows the following entry:
494445 EB-BSTA D 3,5/5x 10,50 GBP excl VAT
So now we have a discrepancy - the current UK PDF catalogue implies that 494445 is one single bit, but the current UK price list states that 494445 comes in a packet of 5! Also, the price list gives the designation "EB-BSTA D 3,5/5x"
To add to the confusion(!), the UK website lists both old (491795) and new (494445) part numbers:
Note how 491795 is listed as 1 per packet (costing 18.41 GBP), with a minimum order qty of 5 (92.05 GBP!), whilst 494445 is listed as 5 per packet (costing 18.41), with a minimum order quantity of 1.
Some
on-line sellers seem to be selling packs of 494445 bits at 9.52 GBP incl VAT for a packet of 5, plus 1.95 GBP postage.
All in all, I must say that it looks a bit of a shambles!

It seems that 3.5mm (and 4.5mm) replacement bits are available, but the price varies from 9.51 GBP incl VAT for five 494445 on eBay, to 92.05 GBP plus VAT for five 491795 from the Festool UK website! It appears that Festool is changing from one part number and packet quantity to another, and is now selling a packet of five bits for the same price as a packet of one bit, but confusion seems to reign, since it is often not clear whether "Qty 1" means one bit, or one packet of five bits.
I can only suggest that potential customers shop around - packets of five bits for a reasonable price
are out there, but trying to make sense of catalogues and price lists seems to be an exercise in frustration. Like Bill, I would be very interested to hear what a dealer has to say on the matter!
