Replacing tool casings?

Hi all,

I've been cleaning up a recently acquired second hand barrel grip Trion. Have had the shell off to clean inside (amazing it was still running with the amount of compacted sawdust inside!) and would like to replace the plastic shell on the front end: the main piece you hold as you use it, and the piece at the end (see pic).  As far as you know, should I be able to buy these, and if so, any thoughts where from (am based in the UK)?

Here is a link to the Festool Great Britain electronic parts catalog page for the trion saws.  You should look for the part number on the label for your saw and then search based on that.  I can't speak to the parts obtaining process outside North America, but here we can contact either a dealer or Festool directly and order parts.

In theory, your local UK Festool dealer should be able to order the parts you want, in the same way as they'd order a box of abrasive or a drill bit. There might be a delay of a couple of weeks though, as the parts may have to come from Germany, and the dealer may want to wait until he has a large enough order to send to Festool.

Although they should be able to find the part number themselves, I always like to be prepared, so I'd go to Spare Parts List which is listed on the left-hand side of the Festool UK website and hunt out the exact model you have, based on the model and Order numbers on the label on the machine.

For example, here is the parts diagram for the PS300EQ Trion that bears Order No 494353:

Item 26 on the diagram is the two halves of the front housing (with the knob on the top and "Trion" printed diagonally); whilst item 55 is the cylindrical rear section.  Cost should be 17.81GBP + VAT for both. I assume you are not replacing the middle section which holds the switch.

In addition to ordering through your local dealer, you should be able to order from Festool direct, if the Service Section of their brand-new Catalogue is to be believed! Here is what they say...

Well, this might be a stupid question... there's a chip of something in my barrel grip Trion.  Everything works well, but I know the chip is there.  I removed the screws but couldn't figure out an easy way to open the front two halves of the case.  Sure, I could pry it, pull really hard, etc., but I'd rather not break anything.

This is a little like the Festool safety glasses... there's a trick and I'd love to know it.

Hi Paul-Marcel,

Once I'd taken the screws out I couldn't get the two halves off either. In the end I pushed a small flat screwdriver between them and twisted...they just kind of popped apart. There was nothing that could break, so it should be fine.
