Guys, I need your help.  I'm looking to install 3 to 4 retractable cord reels from the ceiling for our Festool demo area.  Preferably something sexy and sleek, maybe it can go above the ceiling and just the cord will hang through?  I'm looking for the balancing type.  I think I'm using the wrong word there, but something that will hang the cord at around 6' or so, maybe a bit higher, and allow us to grab the cord, bring it down to the vac and use it.  Once done, just a tug on the cord will retract it back up to that "just out of bump into every customer's head" height.

Any thoughts?  I found a bunch of retractable cord reels on grainger's site, but not sure if they have this "balancing" function and they're also very pricey.

I have Rockler's branded cord reel and it does that.  It was pricy too, but I bought it after the first (of a series of) economic crash when they slashed them 50% off for a weekend.  Very easy to use; actually, the Rockler where I got it from has about 12 from their very high ceiling as you can move a ball to set the "fully retracted" length.

Likely rebranded so a matter of figuring out where they came from.

I'm guessing Alert Stamping. They make pretty good stuff usually.

Don't buy on price.  You will regret it every time you tug on the cord --- either it will not engage when pulled out or will not disengage when you want to retract, and it gets worse the older it gets.  Remember also to look for the UL rating.  They can be a fire hazard as they are electrical

Hmmm, that's great advice Roger.  I found some $80 or so versions on Rockler's site.  Any experience?

I have had the Rockler for about 3 years with no problems.  It gets light use in my garage shop, but I think the quality is fine.
If you search Amazon.com for "retractable cord reels" you'll get a bunch of choices and prices.

Sean      Northern Tool Has a selection of retarctable cord reels with adjustable stops for the cord lenghts...They have a setup with 12/3 wire with a triple tap I think you might want to look at
