Has anyone ever made their own stair retrotreads like the link below?
http://www.youngmanufacturing.com/products/retrotread/

I pulled up the carpet at my main house and was hoping to refinish the stairs.  But, some dumb-ass "carpenter" pretty much butchered the stairs during installation 30 years ago.  Several large chunks and gauges.  I was thinking of the retrotread product of 1/2" overlays.  But, at $28 per stair tread, I think it would be a great project for my Domino and Kapex, with a few oak boards and my 1400 to cut the rounded edges.

Any thoughts?

Thanks in Advance.

I replaced all the carpeted treads and risers in my last house with 1 1/4 solid oak treads and 3/4 " risers.  I wish I would of had festools for that job but they still turned out nice.

Thanks, but, pulling out the old treads would be a major hassle, and the risers are in great shape.  That is why I like the idea of 1/2". Retrotreads.

Are you planing to build the treads full hardwood or Ply + Hard wood nosing ?

I am sure you know what you are doing, this project will be perfect for the machines you have. But if you are going to build it first time please install your hardwood nosing 1mm offset than the actual tread. After glue up your nosing flush trim it. you don't have to use belt sander. IF you are using play wood for the treads you may eat up the veneer with belt sander.Than rout your nosing to shape you like

Ranny where do you see the pricing on the web site. I need to do the same project but I have open stairs.  I will be following this thread with interest.
