Review of Festool: CT Midi Dust Extractor (#583376)

Nice. But now I want that hose sleeve. Where does a guy find one of those?

I was inspired by some other users who used Gorilla Sleeve.  That seemed too heavy duty for me and I wanted lots of (physical) flexibility.

I ordered my sleeving from here:
https://www.wirecare.com/products.asp?prodline=PTN

Flexo PET 1-1/4" clear
This place sells it in 10 foot and then 25 foot lengths.  10 feet is not quite enough (IMO).  25 feet is obviously a lot of extra...
I have 1-1/2" 3:1 shrink wrap on the ends of the sleeving.
IIRC the total cost of sleeving, shrink wrap and shipping came to about $35.

I also put a 16g Plug-It cord through through so I have a hose and power... snag free.  It also prevents the power cord from pulling free when I'm using a tool and tugging on the hose/cord.  I have a 12" loop at the tool-end of the power cord up near the rubber nozzle end.  That gives me some extra slack so it attaches easily to any tool.

Note that they have a Neon Green sleeving color which appears to be close to Festool green.. but I didn't want such a "loud" color.  The clear lets the green and black of the hose show through somewhat.  It was very easy to put on.

Those are pretty nice. Thanks.

I'm kind of tempted to get one of the more obnoxious colors..

Hi

A slight correction.  The Midi does not come with a hepa filter, it comes with a 1 micron filter.  But a Hepa filter can be purchased.  [smile]

Nice sleeve there WJ.  Now that it has been used for a period of time has it been durable and held up well?  Also, nice review.

Hi thank you for the review and finding a good solution for the hose and cable.

I found a distributor in Germany and was wondering.
Is the PET Anti Static. Would seem to be a shame if it got charged up. I understand that most of the friction is happening inside the pipe, but there is still a bit of rubbing going on on the outside.

Also interested in the wear factor.

thanks
Pip

Lee Valley is in Canada so that's the Canadian price?

Hi, I'm not aware of any Hepa filter for the CTL Midi/Mini. Can you give use the part number of this accessory ?

Thanks in advance.

The Mini/Midi sold late summer 2011 and later should have a HEPA filter installed with the fleece bags.  Also it bears repeating that it has the same motor as the larger CT models.

It has held up really well.  The shrink wrap at each end was really key, to keep things from fraying apart.  I also used some 1” black Gorilla tape to secure the shrink wrap so it couldn’t migrate up or down the hose.

My only complaint is that the sleeving does reduce the hose flexibility *a bit*.  Mostly in terms of trying to coil it up.  But having the power cord and hose integrated together, and not catching on anything is way, way, way more valuable.

Thanks for your response NoBreyner. I will ask the question to my Festool dealer because the french Festool website doesn't speak of any HEPA compliant filter.
Do you know if this is specific to USA ?

HI there. I picked up a Midi in late November 2011 from Lee Valley here in BC and it came with the HEPA filter (states HEPA right on the filter once you remove it from the holder), the new self clean filter bags and as far as I could tell the same motor and CFM suction as the rest of the CT Extractors. Nice solution for the hose and cable!!

I'm still somewhat new to the whole Festool world, but learning fast.  I don't know if it's a US thing, but if you have the chance to visit a local Festool dealer have them unbox the one you intend to buy and it should be a simple matter of flipping the two latches and see if the paper in the filter is white (HEPA) or yellow (standard filter, pre-HEPA)

The part number for the Mini/Midi HEPA filter is 496752, at least in the US. Though it doesn't show up on the US or international Festool sites.

It shows up here, though I just noticed I only have a couple left. 'Time to get more.

Is the part number for the HEPA filter normally printed on the CT's box?
