Review of Festool  Master Catalog 2009 Product No. MC 02/09

The catalog screams quality. From the very stylized graphics to the dark colors it is all about quality. Even the weight and texture of the paper you
can feel the quality. So from the very start Festool makes a statement that they are a top notch company and are selling a very high quality, excellent
products.

Catalog_TOC.jpg

There is a very simple, handy edge guide to quickly locate the section or tool category you are looking for. Each page has this thumb guide printed on the right hand edge for quick reference. This saves a lot of time, making it super simple to fin the tool category you are looking for.

Each tool category starts with some very attractive graphics highlighting the tool category. Followed by an explanation of the technology the tool utilize and what the product can do.

They showcase the Festool motto "Faster, Easier, Smarter" and list how the tool fulfill this motto. From a  practical aspect Festool includes several tips on how to use the tool in this section. You can learn a lot about how to effectively use the tools by reading this section.

Each product gets a dedicated full page for a description. There is a high resolution photo of the product that allows you to see the details of the
product. Along the edge there are usually three smaller photos highlighting the feature of the product.  This format is carried through the entire catalog. So  it makes it easy to get a feeling for each of the products quickly.

On the bottom of the page are additional features of the product in a gray box. Again this is constant through out the entire catalog.

After the photo page there is a table showing the different products in a give category and how they compare. At first glance you take this page for
granted. Until you realize, that it offer a concise way of comparing all the product in a category, at one glance. Everything for dimensions, weight, what
is included and price etc. I have found this to be a very useful feature of the catalog.

Next there is a matrix of all the accessories for the category. Listed down the page are all the accessories, across the top of the page are the
products models, the body of the table indicates what accessories work with the different products models and the price.

This is a great way to find all the different accessories that can be added too or use with your tools.

The majority of the time Festool products do not go on sale. There have been exceptions over the last year. But You can save money, any time, on Festool product by purchasing them as package. These two pages list all the package deals.

At first it might seem strange to review a catalog. But I fine it is a very handy tool to learn more about the Festool system, products that they sell, accessories for though tools and how to use the tools.

Three baths in your house, eh?

Now who on earth would keep a Festool catalog in the bathroom. [embarassed]

I prefer the US army survival manual.  I don't think I'll ever get through, nor do I think I retain a word from it, but it's the ultimate material for that, uh, um, yeah, that place in your house that I visit in the AM hours.

First one came form the Rockler store. Then Uncle bob sent me one. Then Festool sent me one.

I was offered another one in the cabinet class and refused it.  Who needs four catalogs. With three I have one for each bathroom.

Nice one Greg!

Something a little different, I was trying to think  outside the box.
And you did.  So far, we have had a review of a coffee mug, a coffee flask, a pencil, and a catalogue that have been outside the box.  What's next?

Hey it is a great catalog.

It got me too spend a boat load of money on tools that, a few years ago, I would have never looked at.

Nice of you to put the catalog in the spotlight for a change.

It sure has to be said, the Festool catalog is the finest tool catalog I have ever read. The first time I got mine from a dealer I visited I was really surprised he would let me walk out of the store with it without paying for it. I got the catalog and a separate price list and together they were as thick as an average phone book. Kept me reading for a good 3 or 4 days. And I read fast.

Now I was looking around that time for a good sander because my old one died on me. So I went looking everywhere, all the stores around, looked at all brands and collected as many documents and catalogs I could find. Now to make a comparison of the Festool catalog with all other brands I can say this: where other brands put like 4 or 5 tools on one single page, Festool does it the other way around and uses 4 or 5 pages for one single tool. Filled with photos of the tools and their applications accompanied by clear and informative text. This is very nice. It gives you a lot of information other brands simply don't give you. From time to time I still take it out to check on stuff.

What is also nice about the catalog is that Festool takes the time to list all available accessories. Makes it very easy to decide what you need. Again, with other manufacturers you often need to become some Sherlock Holmes to find out what accessories they sell. Festool packs it all together into one very good looking, informative and easily accessible package.

Thumbs up for the catalog Festool!  [thumbs up]

It's a nice cat festool rep gave me one but had to tell me I would normally had to pay for it! I would never pay for a catalog!
Fein also gave me one just as thick and nice as the festool less colour though.

The Grizzly catalog is always my favorite by far.

I even got a Hardcover catalog from Rockler, it's a book!

Both those catalogs have to cost more to produce than a Festool catalog and they are always free.

I too do not pay for catalogs, the companies send them to me and come after me as a well known buyer of tools, I do not go after them. They need to prove to me they are worth doing business with and charging me to look at what they sell? Heck, that's like people charging me before I can see their website.

I don't believe in direct buy either, I don't care what kind of deal the buyers think they are getting. I don't pay for the privilege do business with someone, its their privilege I am even considering buying something from them at all. They need to pay me with free catalogs, deals, freebies, etc. At the very least not charge me just to look at their products or purchase from them! Great business plan though.

That being said I never paid for a Festool catalog.

That's strange, I think he was pulling you a leg. The Festool catalog is available in all stores for free.

"Review of Festool Website"?

[big grin] [big grin] [big grin]

Now THAT's an idea. Why don't you guys review my Festoolproducts.com and let me know where we can make it more user friendly. [wink]
I kid, I kid...but honestly, 50% of the time, I am serious, every time."

If manufacturers actually took the time to listen to their loyal customers, many things would be different. I can think of a few manufacturer catalogs that are simply baffling to try to even look up a model number of a tool.

Excellent review. Excellent feedback for Festool. Well done G-powers.
