I would like to share my positive experience with Festool’s flagship router: OF-2200 EB. This is biggest, the most powerful, and priciest router currently offered by Festool.

First I’ll quote some specs:
- Power consumption 2200 watts
- Drive shaft speed 10,000 – 22,000 rpm
- Quick depth adjustment range 80 mm (3-5/32”)
- Weight 7.8 kg (17.2 lbs)
Festool USA currently offers OF-2200 for $800.
The standard scope of delivery includes:
- OF-2200 router
- Systainer 4
- Collet ½”
- Chip catcher
- Dust extraction hood
- Standard U.S. guide bushing adaptor

What is so exciting about this router? That’s not just a router. This is ROUTER within SYSTEM.
OF-2200 was designed as portable hand-held shaper. In addition to that router has close to 100% dust extraction system. Plus it has a lot of accessories. Some of them were designed exclusively for OF-2200 router, some of them like MFS system can be used with any router. Some of them like FS/2 Festool rails can be used with wide variety of Festool tools.
Let start review from handles. Power switch located on the left handle, plunging mechanism lock located on the right handle. So operator keeps full control with two hands and operates at the same time. Another innovation is that handles have 30 degree offset for improving guidance and for more natural grip position.

OF-2200 has amazing dust extraction system. Router’s base has built in dust Shute. OF-2200 is first router with spring activated moving shroud. Shroud release button located close to the left handle. Simply press the shroud release button and shroud drops into place.

This router is really chip making machine. Just check out size of chip catcher on the right. I placed chip catchers from OF-1010 (on the left) and from OF-1400 (in the middle) just for showing the difference.

OF-2200 has magnetic brakes. Electronic step-less speed control dial located on the left side.

Router has four position depth stop. Two adjustable positions, one fixed position and one special finishing pass position for repeatable and consistent step cutting. Micro adjuster has good graphic instructions for proper rotation.

Another good feature is one tool ratcheting router collet changing mechanism. This mechanism was introduced first with OF-1400 router, but OF-2200 has head that can be operated from the base side. I suspect that allows changing bits from the top of router table.

The most unusual feature is tool less router base replacing system. Router base can be easily removed with just one lever. But Festool improved this function and introduced self centering bushings. Standard U.S. guide bushing adaptor goes with every Festool router.

As extremely helpful add-in I like accessory kit. This kit includes everything what you might need with this router. As you can see it is well packed in Systeiner 3. Festool offers it as metric or imperial.
