So, I couldn't previously justify the cost of a platform with casters (usually $75)... I built my own a few months ago using 3/4" ply, got the little rubber attachments, and some 1" ball-bearing casters.  It's good for my workshop, where I need the lower height because I store a stack under my worktable top.  But it's not something that's going to roll over a hose or the big cracks in my driveway.

The last few months since spring started have seen me doing a lot more woodworking in my garage, in addition to my basement (where I keep all my Festool stuff.. much more secure than the garage).  I've also been working on two others houses (my parents and my BIL), which require me to haul my tools around a bit.  Long story short, military parachutist, drunk-driver accident (the drunk hit me), and some bad lifting moves, and papa here has a very bad back.  So, hauling around a stack of Systainer has been less and less fun as the gleam wears off the tools (just kidding!).

Sooo.. Sean at Systainerworld has a superbly good deal going on and coupon codes that present a significant discount.  So, what the heck, I got two.  ;-0)  Only drawback, they don't have Festool green "clips".

I figured, make two trips up the basement stairs and stack 'em on a caster cart, and roll leisurely where I need to go. If I need to separate stacks in the garage and roll them under/out from my MFTs then whoopee, having two is handy.

Okay, novella prologue over.. here's the brief review:

There's not much to this cart.  Plastic ABS platform, the little rubber retention "clips", and four casters.

I have to say, these are the nicest dang casters I've ever seen.  They are made in Germany, and they are smooooth, both the rolling and the rotation action.  I put a stack of five Systainers (with tools) on a cart in my workshop and moved it around with one finger.
The lock is quite solid, but easy to engage and easy to release with a foot.  There are locks on two of the casters, which are on the same side as the front of Systainers.

The top of the platform is about exactly 5" off the ground, so that's how much it raises your tools.  The platform is low enough to roll under the cross-bar on the MFT1080 and MFT800 legs (I don't have a MFT3 to compare).  This is handy for kind of kicking it out of the way...
EDIT:   I kicked it under my MFT1080 forgetting I had some block risers lifting it 1.5" higher.  Without the risers the Tanos cart does *not* roll under the MFT800/1080 leg cross-bars.  The top of the cart is basically level with the *top* of the cross-bar.
As an aside, I did an experiment and any Sortaner mounted at the bottom level should open unimpeded directly over the cross-bar.

The rubber clips hold on securely, but frankly they only have to support the weight of the cart.  The flare-outs to which the casters are attached spread the balance outside the range of the Systainer footprint, making the tower-on-wheels quite stable.  Rolling up/down a steep hill would be interesting, but on fairly flat it doesn't feel tippy.

Conclusion:  I'm glad I bought them.  I wish I'd bought them 2 months ago, but the current price point is good consolation.

Thanks Sean!

Second edit:
A few people have PM'd asking about the coupon codes I mentioned, so I'm posting them here.
Currently Sean has "free12" for shipping, and "gimme20" for 20% off.  Final cost for a cart, shipped to your door is just over $55.
I don't know if that 20% off is still good.  It was a one time use only.  But, I got a notification from Sean this morning that he's just activated another, FOG exclusive.  Hope I'm not jumping the gun!   "fog20"

I have had one for a couple years.

They become slightly dangerous to move once the stack gets to be about 7 feet tall. [big grin]

Nice review Junkie. [thumbs up] I picked up the Festool version a few months ago. My experience with this cart matches yours. And you aren't kidding about how sweet the casters are.

Is the Tanos cart the exact same as the Festool ?  Cant get Tanos here but there is an offer on here if you buy a pack of 5 assorted systainers you get the cart for free.

I don't have the Tanos cart but they sure look the same to me.

Other then the color, they are the same.

You can order the Bickle (SP??) casters that come on that roll board.

They are kind of salty though.

I have four of the Festool Systainer Carts.  All are the older off-whte color -- the same color as the rest of the Festool Systainers.  I started off with two of these Carts and as I purchased more and more Festools, I also purchased more Carts along with some Sysrtainer Ports -- currently, I have four Systainer Carts and four Systainer Ports.  I stack two Sortainers and one Systainer-1 on each of the Carts.  These stacks fit nicely under my older model MFTs.  I keep the Systainer-1 that tops one of these stacks empty, and use that as a place to set down the tool I am using.  I highly recommend these Systainer Carts.

Damn, 4 sys ports cost almost as much as my house. [scratch chin] [big grin]

The carts are great, sys ports are sweet but, not practical for a nomadic carpenter.

...

So, I guess the tools inside those SysPorts would exceed the cost of all the homes on your block?  [eek]

Casters, casters!  I was staring at them, Friday I believe, and thought to myself, "Dang, those look insanely beefy and well made."  A little tooling around and comparing them to other casters around the shop on scaffolding I sell, greenlee job boxes, etc. and I realized that they were by far the nicest units in the shop.  They really are top notch.

Glad they're working out so well for you, puts a smile on my face!  :)

I've had this cart for a while now and have to agree it is very convenient. The casters are really great and roll well on various surfaces. My only beef with it though is that there isn't a hole on one side to stick a handle in to make pushing the cart easier. Usually I have a tall stack of systainers on it so it isn't a problem. With only a couple on the cart it is a pain to push around. Been thinking of retrofitting some sort of push handle, no time though.
I would recommend it as a purchase.

Hi Woodjunkie,
Thanks for the brief review. I also went out a got one (Festool version), as I also have a back problem. If I take care, it's not a problem though. Lifting badly or too heavy (90 kilo's plus) I have a painfull back. So, it's not so much the weight, but more the position or not allways correct lifting position. In my workshop I have three stacks of systainers under my worktable, but only one stack includes a vac. So for me it was a revelation to get the rollercart. It's so nice made. In front of my working table, I also have a half inch foammat lying on the floor, for added comfort (a good idea for someone with a backdamage), and the big wheels on the rollercart makes it really easy just to pull lightly, and voila, the Festools comes out in a stack.
Very nice product which seems pricey as all Festools, but shows up to be well worthwhile, in added manageability, comfort and easy use.
Now, I better go get an extra one, as those systainers seems to be slowly multiplying themselves...  [scared]

Cheers,
Jacques.

Sheesh, I know this just doesn't sound right, and I hate to be the one to point this out, but...  they're not multiplying all by themselves.  :o

Do you get male & female systainers cos i am sure mine are breeding  [crying]

Sure they multiply, though slowly. And I believe in Santa  ;D

Cheers,
Jacques.

Agreed, thanks for the review.  Tons of great and useful info.  I've been looking for something like that for my festool tools as well.  Also, thanks for posting the coupon codes.

Thanks, Wood Junkie, for the heads-up on the Tanos Systainer cart discouts.  I called Sean this afternoon at Tool Nut and he says the discount is still good, so I ordered four more.  I've been using the carts in the shop as dollies to move wood and cabinets around the shop.  The casters are great!!

Sean says the FOG discount "fog20" is still good for all products at SystainerWorld.com.  What a deal!!  That'll save us a few bucks so we can buy all the new Festools coming out in the next few months. [crying]

I gotta glom onto this thread and thank Wood Junkie myself.

Last Friday I ordered a pair of the carts and they arrived yesterday.

Can't wait top open my early Christmas presents. :)

Ha, y'all are welcome.  Most thanks to Sean at Toolnut / Systainerworld.com for providing such a nice deal to we FOGgers.

For any who missed it and haven't read this whole thread, 20% off via "fog20" on most, if not all, Tanos products and derivatives.

Free shipping, if it's still active via "free12".
