The main Festools tools always get the big reviews….but it is the accessories that make the tools shine and more fun to use.
I came across two that caused the classic head slap… I was at a Festool day at my local Woodcraft a few months back and Danny Mack Hale, Regional Festool Sales Manager took a Saturday and showed us many Festool products and accessories… like always, learned a lot and it cost me a bit of green for even more green.
I work on site so my stuff goes in and out of vehicles and then in and out of the job sites all the time. The job site is most likely a finished home that needs some updating not a rough construction site.
The first accessory that made me wonder why I had not heard of it was… a stupid simple thing that I can’t believe I didn’t know of and wonder why every CT does not come with this. What I saw was the - Hose Sleeve, Blanking Plug Product No. 452899 for $12.00.
We have all pulled out the hose and gotten a bit of dust out of the connection. Well if you move the CT and set it down hard with anything in the bag… you get a puff of dust. When moving/loading the CT, if you tip it toward the hose opening… you can pour out what is in the bag. So a simple solution is to use this plug.
This Plug goes into the hose opening of the CT and blocks anything from ever coming out. This allows you move the CT with confidence that you are not going to puff dust out or pour it out when you move it. For a product line that touts that DC is the core of the product line… not having this plug is almost blaspheme. We could go a bit further and ask… Why doesn’t the CT Line come with a built in/integrated waste gate that just lets you close the opening when you pull the hose? Till then… Use the below and you will keep the job site and your vehicle clean.
001 How to get out of the site and not dump dirt out of the CT
[attachthumb=#]
002 If you look at your CT you will see a little rectangle and that is where pointy plastic strap plugs into… and then you move the CT and the pointy plastic strap breaks off
[attachthumb=#]
003 pull out the hose and put the blanking plug in
[attachthumb=#]
004 It goes in easy with little force needed to seat it
[attachthumb=#]
005 Once in the CT will not cough or dump dust
[attachthumb=#]
006 It is a blanking cover… I first thought the name was the German way of swearing …about something.
[attachthumb=#]
The second must have (in my humble opinion….okay… maybe not as humble as I should be… LOL…) is the Festool Plastic Universal Nozzle, Product No. 498527 $15.00
When the 2011/20012 catalog came out, I saw the product but being an outlined image. I could not tell size, nor could I tell functionality from the image or copy describing the product. At the Festool event, Danny had the brush. The shape was very interesting as it would fit in corners and the bristles were soft enough not to harm finished projects. Then Danny made a few of us drop our jaws when he… took and twisted the shaft of the brush… now the brush became even more useful as the shaft will turn 90 degrees an you can get your brush/vac into delicate places at all angles… WDITOT… Why Didn’t I Think of This!!!!
This has become my go to brush for finished and any delicate surfaces!
007 Do you see the hinge in the catalog image… I did not
[attachthumb=#]
008 How it comes... Shows size on a MFT as reference
[attachthumb=#]
009 Twist the shaft and bingo this thing becomes even more useful
[attachthumb=#]
010 The head is small with very soft bristles. It won’t scratch or damage finished surfaces
[attachthumb=#]
011 The head will fit in to very tight spots and with the soft bristles it will not hurt floors
[attachthumb=#]
012 It will not hurt custom made Cherry cabinets when you are done for the day
[attachthumb=#]
013 It will not harm textured ceilings… that we all know are delicate

Cheers,
Steve
