Ridgid Thickness Planer R4331 rollers not turning -- anyone know why?

I checked the brushes, power, etc. and cleaned the rollers. When powered on, the blades turn but not the rollers. I could turn the rollers by hand.

Thanks!

I thought I registered the tool, but couldn't find it when I logged in the Ridgid account. I might have mailed it.

Update: The belts and chain seem to be fine. Something may be wrong with the gears which I can't access unless the machine body is taken apart.

But luckily I found all the life-time warranty registration paperwork and receipt, so I'll call the designated repair shop for assistance first thing on Monday. The machine was bought in Oct. 2016 -- too young to die!

Update: The thickness planer has been repaired. It took 8 business days, as they had to order some parts.

Luckily, I did register the machine, otherwise the free warranty would be valid for three years from the date of purchase, not a life-time coverage. The technician has replaced three damaged parts.

Glad to hear it's been repaired!

In some ways, I've only ever seen registering an appliance, tool, etc. as getting my information put into a mailing list that will then get sold to myriad others who will add it to even more mailing lists that I don't want to be on.

I'm not sure how I feel about the "warranty wouldn't be lifetime if you hadn't registered the tool", especially because companies like Festool and others lock people out of registering tools if it's been longer than a month since purchase.  Either the warranty is valid or it's not, and if I have proof of purchase, that should be good enough.

Man, I sound grumpy.  Sorry...

I hear you.

Some merchants extend warranty to current owners of their tools, not just the original purchasers/owners, and proof of purchase is not required, nor is any kind of registration needed. Good examples include Lie-Nielsen and Veritas/Lee Valley Tools. These are the kind of company that is customer-oriented, and the kind that's a joy to deal with. Often, the experience of after-sales service counts more than anything.

Ridgid registrations can be made on Ridgid.com and Ridgid.ca, and it took a bit of digging before I could retrieve my customer ID, which is what my local authorized repair dealer requires for free repair service. I had the original receipt from HD, but it wouldn't cut it.

Touch wood. None of my Festool purchases (7 of them, and properly registered (I think [unsure])) has ever needed any service.
