Philip C. Lowe passed away recently.  I found out in an email I got from Fine Woodworking on Saturday:

There's a thread on Lumberjocks talking about his shop closing.

I really enjoyed watching his "The Art of Woodworking" series on YouTube:

Very sad news, he will be greatly missed. I had the pleasure of taking several classes with Phil at his Furniture Institute of Massachusetts and additionally took a class at his school with Chris Schwarz. Chris told me over lunch during one of the class days that Phil was one of the top five furniture makers in the country. I had know idea at the time that Phil was a Master Craftsman and such a highly accomplished woodworker. But the more I learned the more amazed I was, not by the obvious skill and knowledge that Phil so easily wielded and shared, but by the humble and kind nature of the man who one minute would be tearing through oak with a drawknife like it was butter and the next minute taking a lunch list and heading out to pick up sandwiches for his students. Godspeed
